We are actively recruiting for an experienced Mechanical Construction Manager to join a highly respected and expanding M&E contractor on a permanent basis. The initial assignment for the Mechanical Construction Manager will be a technically complex pharmaceutical laboratory project in Central London. Due to the high-specification and nature of the scheme, it is essential that applicants have previous experience delivering pharmaceutical or healthcare and commercial projects where quality, compliance, coordination, and safety standards are critical.
The Role – Mechanical Construction Manager
As Mechanical Construction Manager, you will take full responsibility for the successful site delivery of mechanical packages, ensuring works are completed safely, to programme, and to the highest quality standards.
The Mechanical Construction Manager will work closely with the Project Manager, subcontractors, supply chain partners, and the client, maintaining a strong site presence and leading from the front. This role requires a hands-on Mechanical Construction Manager who is comfortable checking installations physically, interrogating drawings, and holding teams accountable.
Key Responsibilities

Drive and maintain exceptional mechanical quality standards on site.

Lead health & safety performance with a zero-tolerance approach and promote a “don’t walk by” culture.

Support the Project Manager in maintaining safe systems of work and flood mitigation plans.
*
Review and approve RAMS, ensuring they are suitable and implemented correctly.
*
Review mechanical drawings and identify coordination clashes, buildability concerns, and technical risks.
*
Adopt a “check the checker” approach — verifying setting out, invert levels, installation heights, and compliance with specifications.
*
Use laser levels and physical measurement tools to confirm installation accuracy.
*
Manage and hold subcontractors accountable for quality, safety, and programme performance.
*
Identify and communicate variations in a commercially aware and timely manner.
*
Drive the mechanical programme, sequencing works effectively to ensure deadlines are achieved.
*
Escalate technical or programme issues promptly.
*
Support quality management systems (Viewpoint experience desirable).
Requirements for the Mechanical Construction Manager
*
SMSTS qualification.
*
Valid CSCS Black Card.
*
Proven experience operating as a Mechanical Construction Manager or in a senior site-based mechanical leadership role.

Essential experience delivering healthcare and/or complex commercial projects (laboratories or pharmaceutical environments highly advantageous).

Strong health & safety leadership with a proactive mindset.
*
Demonstrable track record of delivering high-quality mechanical installations.
*
Experience reviewing and approving RAMS.
*
Strong technical drawing review and buildability assessment capability.
*
Hands-on approach to site verification and installation checks.
*
Commercial awareness with experience identifying and raising variations.
*
Confident client-facing communication skills.
*
Experience managing site programmes and sequencing works.
