Alongside several consortium partners, Balfour Beatty has been selected by BP (British Petroleum) to construct a first-of-a-kind fully integrated gas-fired power station with carbon capture and storage, a key part of making Teesside the UK’s first decarbonised industrial cluster.
We are seeking an experienced Civils Senior Buyer to contribute to the Net Zero Teesside project at our new site in Redcar, Teesside.
What you’ll be doing
As a Senior Buyer, your responsibilities will include:
1. Proposing and developing procurement strategies for indirect and direct categories in collaboration with the Procurement Manager/Head of Procurement, ensuring economical procurement routes.
2. Managing procurement processes for complex equipment packages, including:
1. Preparing requests for proposals and quotations.
2. Evaluating supplier responses both quantitatively and qualitatively.
3. Assessing value using techniques like Most Economically Advantageous Tender or Social Value evaluation.
4. Conducting commercial checks and reviewing past performance of suppliers.
5. Negotiating with suppliers to shortlist and select vendors.
6. Providing recommendations and conducting final negotiations to prepare contracts and orders, ensuring compliance with NZT governance.
3. Supporting and supervising team activities related to procurement.
4. Providing regular reports on procurement and supplier performance.
5. Monitoring the supply market for new suppliers and products, and engaging with suppliers to understand their offerings.
6. Staying informed on market developments, demand trends, and risks.
7. Delivering high-quality, value-adding procurement services that exceed minimum expectations, with a focus on customer needs, technical knowledge, and process efficiency.
8. Establishing long-term, performance-led supplier relationships focusing on value, quality, and continuous improvement.
Who we’re looking for
The ideal candidate will have:
* Substantial experience in complex procurement processes within a construction-related environment.
* Experience in developing procurement strategies across both indirect and direct categories.
* A proven track record of exceeding results and targets.
* Problem-solving skills with initiative to identify improvements and propose solutions.
* Knowledge of procurement ERP and e-tendering systems (e.g., Oracle, Jaggaer).
* Understanding of the Subcontract Procurement Process and Supply Chain Management.
