Offer description

We’re looking for a Lead robotics software engineer (robotics simulation) to lead the development of our HITL simulation stack from the ground up. In this role, you’ll architect, implement and test our multi-agent decision making engine using HITL simulations while maintaining the simulation-to-real gap as close as possible. You’ll be interacting with the Core ML team to include decision-making algorithms into our simulations and with the Physical AI team to instantiate ready to deliver solutions into the real world after careful testing and validation.

The ideal candidate will have expertise in simulation and robotics, Nvidia Isaac Sim, MuJoCo, etc and have experience developing autonomous systems teaming unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) and contribute to our cutting-edge drone squad technology.

Who we are

Mutable Tactics is a pioneering technology company specializing in advanced autonomy for squad robotic systems. We’re blending cutting-edge computer vision, ML, multi-agent AI and probabilistic inference techniques into autonomous UxV solutions for complex, mission-critical operations. Our team is dedicated to pushing the boundaries of robotics and AI, with a strong focus on safety and ethical considerations in autonomous systems. Based in London and Cambridge we’re building a diverse team of talented individuals who share our passion for innovation and pushing the boundaries of what's possible in autonomous systems. We offer a dynamic and collaborative work environment where creativity and problem-solving are highly valued.

About the Role

At MT we are developing building the next frontier of robot collaboration. You’ll have the unique opportunity to shape how the future of robot collaboration looks like.

What you'll get to do
* Autonomy EngineeringLead the architecture, design, and development of software for autonomous vehicles (AXVs) and remotely operated vehicles (ROVs), leveraging ROS/ROS 2 and other robotic middleware.
* Develop accurate robot dynamics models for various robot systems to support physics-aware planning and control.
* Drive testing and validation efforts, for hardware-in-the-loop simulations and live trials, ensuring robust performance in challenging environments.
* Direct the development of real-time systems for data acquisition, onboard processing, and communication.
* Contribute to proposal development, system-level design reviews, and strategic planning related to autonomous systems.
* Hands-On Robotics DeploymentCollaborate with hardware teams to ensure seamless software-hardware integration.
* Conduct simulations and field tests to validate performance and optimize system behavior.
* Cross-Team CollaborationWork closely with the Core ML and Physical AI teams
* Communicate effectively with non-technical stakeholders to explain robotic capabilities and project progress.
What we’d like to see
* Simulation Expertise in Robotics Environments: Proficient in deploying high-fidelity simulation environments (Isaac Sim, Gazebo, ROS2) for testing autonomy, sensor modeling, and control validation. Should know about Omniverse, USD, MJCF, URDF, CAD formats
* Strong Programming Skills: Experience with the full software development lifecycle. Proficiency in Python and C++ for algorithm development and system integration. Experience with GPU programming (CUDA C++, PyTorch) a plus.
* Experience with the full software development lifecycle
* Understanding of System Integration and Engineering for Autonomous Systems: Solid cross-domain knowledge across a wide range of robotic autonomy modules, including localization, perception, planning, and controls.
* 7+ years experience with in embedded systems, robotics software, or unmanned systems development (including RL and synthetic data generation).
* Experience with real-time systems.
* Experience with computer vision frameworks (OpenCV, YOLO, tensorflow, pytorch, etc.)
What will set you apart
* Multi-agent systems experience
* Experience with real-time systems or robotics middleware
* Familiarity with sensor integration and perception algorithms
* Understanding of safety standards and compliance in robotics
* Familiarity with hardware integration for robots (e.g. ROS)

We encourage you to apply even if you don’t meet all bullet points on our wish list.

💡 This is a hybrid position, the successful candidate will be expected to work from the office at least 3 days a week.

Join us in pushing the boundaries of autonomous drone technology and contribute to innovative solutions in the field of robotics.
