Job Title: Men’s 2nd XI Head Coach Reports to: Men’s Head Coach Contract: Permanent, Full-Time Hours: Min 40 hours per week to include evenings, weekends and bank holidays as required Salary: £45,000 - £50,000 per annum Location: The Cooper Associates County Ground, Taunton & other venues Closing date: Monday 12 January 2026 THE ROLE An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Men’s 2nd XI Head Coach to join Somerset County Cricket Club! You can play a crucial role in combining coaching excellence, operational oversight and external engagement to support the club’s strategic aims and enhance its reputation in the wider cricket community. The main purpose of the role is to deliver an outstanding player development programme, leading, managing and developing players to progress into 1st XI cricket, ensuring a high-quality environment that enables both performance and personal growth. Additionally, to manage the full operation of the 2nd XI environment, developing a strong pipeline of players for the 1st XI squad, maintaining close links with the SCCC Pathway and regional partners, and delivering specialist support coaching where required. To give you a snapshot of what this role involves, you will contribute to creating a high-performance environment that supports player development through innovative training sessions and specialist coaching. You’ll develop and implement individual performance plans, support the Men’s Head Coach, and contribute to player reviews to maintain elite standards and encourage high-performance behaviours. You will be managing all team operations such as fixture logistics, match-day environment, and providing regular reports to senior management. You’ll promote safeguarding, inclusion, and high standards of conduct, ensure the protection of vulnerable groups while fostering an inclusive environment through role modelling and adherence to the club’s policies. Building strong relationships with regional stakeholders, partner counties, and representing the club at external meetings and events are also key responsibilities. ABOUT YOU Amongst other essential criteria, you will have extensive coaching experience, particularly with elite and adolescent cricketers, with a proven track record of developing talented young players and First Class cricketers into elite senior performers. You’ll have strong knowledge of first-class cricket and hold at least a UKCC Level 3 coaching qualification or an international equivalent. You are required to have extensive experience with performance and technical analysis systems, good IT skills, and excellent time management and organisational abilities. Additionally, strong communication, interpersonal, and influencing skills, along with demonstrable leadership qualities, are essential to succeed in this position. You will be initiative, flexibility, and adaptability, with a collaborative approach and a high level of emotional intelligence.
