Overview
Student and Academic Services
The Directorate of Student and Academic Services brings together key professional services that support the student journey and enhance the academic experience at Bangor University. The Directorate comprises three main areas:
1. Registry, which oversees student administration and business support, and leads on quality assurance, academic enhancement, and curriculum management.
2. Student Life, which encompasses a wide range of student-facing services including Wellbeing and Inclusivity, Library Collections, Residential Life, Student Success (covering Teaching, Learning and Language Support, Careers, and Student Advice), and the Student Experience team.
3. Campus Services, responsible for the University’s day-to-day operational environment, including Facilities, Catering, Sport, the Nursery, and the Security and Response Team. As of August 2025, this now includes the Management and Development Centre.
Together, these services work in close partnership with academic colleagues and other professional service directorates to provide a supportive, inclusive and high-quality environment in which students can thrive.
This role is based in Student Services and Administration (Student Life: Student Experience), reporting to the Senior Student Experience Officer.
Purpose of the Job
The Student Experience Officer will work as part of a small team responsible for maintaining and enhancing the student experience at Bangor. This work includes student communications and student engagement and events activity. The role holder will be expected to develop a close working relationship with key contacts in academic Schools and across professional services to produce redraft engaging content for various channels of student communication, in line with University requirements around brand and tone of voice. This will include communications through MyBangor and the Student Bulletin as well as student focused campaigns. The Student Experience Officer will support the Senior Student Experience Officer with the administration and operation of events, preparation of surveys, monitoring and delivery of action plans relating to improving the student experience. They will also be responsible for the administration of student internships, including promotion, recruitment and delivery of a standard induction.
This post will focus on leading events and internships. The post holder will also be expected to work closely with colleagues to ensure awareness of the communications elements.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
Specific Responsibilities of the Role
4. Draft and schedule student communications across email, intranet, social media and digital signage.
5. Draft student communications based on information provided by others (including Senior managers) to create student-friendly versions of key information such as might be used for urgent and important messages through the All-student email.
6. Maintain and update designated student facing web content, including for the Helpdesk, ensuring it is accurate, accessible and up to date.
7. Monitor communication analytics (e.g. open rates, engagement data) to support improvement.
8. Coordinate planning and delivery of student-facing events, working in partnership with other Professional Services and Academic Schools. This will include logistics and promotion.
9. Centrally administer Student Internship Opportunities, promoting the scheme amongst the student body, recruiting and providing a standard induction for the interns and working in close liaison with colleagues to ensure consistent practice across the University.
10. Support risk assessments and event safety planning in collaboration with relevant services.
11. Support the promotion and delivery of institutional surveys (e.g. NSS, PTES) and internal feedback mechanisms.
12. Draft materials to encourage student engagement in surveys and events. Work collaboratively across the team to ensure communications, events and feedback activity are aligned and delivered effectively.
13. Any other duties appropriate to the grade as directed by line management.
Core Responsibilities (Common to all G6 roles within the Directorate)
Service Delivery
14. Provide efficient administration for processes, events, or services within an assigned area of work.
15. Manage and maintain accurate records and databases, and coordinate delivery of operational tasks such as scheduling, correspondence, and document preparation to ensure smooth service delivery.
16. Act as point of contact for any G4/5 staff in the team, providing day to day guidance and support, ensuring workloads are balanced with tasks completed effectively and escalating complex issues to senior colleagues.
Communication, Stakeholder Engagement & Events
17. Create and distribute clear and engaging communication materials to promote services, events, or updates, including maintaining webpages, newsletters, and other platforms to enhance visibility and accessibility of services.
18. Organise and deliver events, workshops, or sessions for students and staff (e.g., careers fairs, employability workshops, or student support workshops). These will be delivered using materials or resources designed by senior members of staff.
19. Liaise with internal and external stakeholders to ensure delivery of successful event planning promotion and execution.

Data Management, Reporting and Casework
20. Collect, input, and analyse data related to the role's focus, monitoring and responding to issues, maintaining confidentiality and escalating as necessary.
21. Monitor and report on progress, trends and outcomes within own area of work, including generation of reports to support decision-making, service evaluation, or compliance with institutional and external requirements.
22. Handle routine and complex cases following predetermined procedures in a timely and professional manner, providing appropriate resolutions or escalating when required.
23. Provide advice, guidance and signposting on information, policies, procedures or requirements relating to the assigned area, including dealing with enquiries passed on from G4/5 staff.
Process Improvement and Innovation
24. Contribute to the development and refinement of resources, processes and systems within the assigned area.
25. Participate in projects or initiatives aimed at improving the student experience or institutional operations.
26. Collaborate across departments to provide flexible and proactive support for university-wide events and initiatives, ensuring smooth delivery and a consistent experience for participants.
27. Provide cross-functional assistance to the university community by covering staff absences or stepping in during periods of high demand, adapting quickly to different processes and priorities to maintain operational efficiency.
Collaboration and Teamwork
28. When required, provide flexible and proactive support for university-wide events and initiatives, ensuring smooth delivery and a consistent experience for participants.
29. Provide cross-functional assistance within the Directorate by covering staff absences or stepping in during periods of high demand, adapting quickly to different processes and priorities to maintain operational efficiency.
30. Build and maintain relationships with internal teams, academic departments, professional services and external partners, ensuring that services are integrated and that student needs are holistically met.
31. Represent the team or service area in meetings, working groups, or at external events.

32. Provide administrative support for audits, reviews, or other compliance-related activities, ensuring use of proper documentation and accurate record-keeping for accountability and reporting purposes.
33. The post holder will be expected to participate in performance review and developmental activities including attending training sessions, team meetings, or workshops to develop skills and enhance knowledge.

37. Qualifications/Training
Essential
Educated to A Level or NVQ Level 4 in a relevant subject area.
Desirable
Educated to degree level in a relevant subject area or equivalent. ECDL certificate.
Experience/Knowledge
Essential
An excellent understanding of the student journey and student experience in Higher Education. Experience of managing relationships with multiple stakeholders. Experience of producing engaging and accessible content for students or a range of audiences. Experience of organising events.
Skills/Abilities
Essential
Ability to plan activities that deliver the required outcomes within prescribed timescales and within budget. Excellent communication skills, both written and spoken including the ability to deliver engaging and successful presentations to varying audiences at all levels. Excellent team working skills with the ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues. Excellent organisational skills. Proficient use of a range of Microsoft IT applications and social medial tools.

The ability to speak Welsh fluently and carry out tasks such as writing emails in Welsh to a variety of audiences is essential for this post.
