Do you enjoy the outdoors, have a keen eye for detail, and a passion for the environment?

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join our Brampton/Ely based Hydrometry & Telemetry Team as a Hydrometric Officer. This is a dynamic, predominantly field-based role with occasional office-based responsibilities. You’ll be working outdoors throughout the year, including in challenging weather conditions, so resilience and adaptability are key. Operating across Cambridgeshire, Bedfordshire, and parts of Norfolk, you’ll be responsible for collecting, validating, and delivering high-quality scientific data on rainfall, river flows and levels, and groundwater. This vital information supports both internal teams and external stakeholders in making informed environmental decisions.

Responsibilities

* Collecting hydrometric data from numerous sites across the area
* Conducting flow gauging at sites to support data validation and incident response
* Report on asset conditions, identifying issues that may affect the data quality
* Undertaking fieldwork and travelling to local offices and national meetings as required

You will also be expected to develop and maintain strong working relationships with other team members and support them to achieve team objectives.

We’re all different, and by embracing Equality, Diversity & Inclusion (EDI) we can become an equal opportunity employer where jointly we all grow and learn together. Our goal is to deliver accurate, timely information that meets the needs of our customers.

Experience / Skills Required

Essential:

* Ability to work independently
* Good communication skills
* Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications
* Comfortable working near and in water
* A full UK driving licence

Helpful but not essential:

* Experience in collecting and managing data
* Experience with environmental monitoring instrumentation, particularly in river and tidal settings
* An awareness of field-based health and safety

The ideal candidate will be naturally inquisitive, with a sharp eye for detail. Prior experience or knowledge of hydrometry and telemetry is advantageous but not essential. We offer a comprehensive training and mentoring programme to support your development and ensure success. You will be provided with all the equipment required for your role. The candidate pack and generic role profile should be read along with the advert to understand key accountabilities and skills needed.
