Hays are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Civils Estimator to join a Top Tier Civils Contractor based in Derry/L'Derry. The successful candidate will be responsible for preparing accurate andpetitive cost estimates for civil engineering projects across Ireland and the UK. This role is pivotal in supporting thepany's tendering process and ensuring themercial success of bids.
Your new role
As a Senior Estimator, you'll be a key member of themercial team, responsible for preparing accurate andpetitive cost estimates for civil engineering projects across the UK and Ireland. The role involves working on groundworks, concrete, and shuttering projects, with a focus on large infrastructure and public works.
Key Responsibilities
1. Analyse tender documents including drawings, specifications, and bills of quantities.
2. Prepare detailed cost estimates for civil engineering projects including roads, bridges, utilities, and infrastructure.
3. Liaise with subcontractors and suppliers to obtainpetitive quotations.
4. Attend site visits and pre-bid meetings to assess project scope and conditions.
5. Collaborate with project managers and engineers to develop value engineering proposals.
6. Maintain and update cost databases and estimating software.
7. Prepare and present tender submissions and cost breakdowns.
8. Identify risks and opportunities within project scopes.
9. Support post-tender negotiations and handover to delivery teams.
What you'll need to succeed Requirements
10. Degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, Quantity Surveying or related field.
11. Minimum 8 years’ experience in estimating within the civil engineering or construction sector.
12. Proficiency in estimating software
13. Strong analytical and numerical skills.
14. Excellentmunication and negotiation abilities.
15. Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
16. Knowledge of current construction methods, materials, and regulations.
Desirable
17. Experience with infrastructure projects in Ireland or the UK.
18. Familiarity with NEC or other standard forms of contract.
19. Chartered status or working towards professional accreditation.
