Role Description
This is a full-time or part time role for a Special Education Advisor, within an office base in Newcastle Upon Tyne with clients across the whole of England. The day-to-day tasks for this role include providing educational consulting and advice to parents, teachers, and school staff. The role also involves developing and implementing education, health and care plans for learners, coordinating with other professionals to ensure comprehensive packages, and liaising with Local Authorities to secure the right provison and funding.
The post requires school assessment visits during which information is gathered via observations, to write reports that identify pupil needs and to address potential changes needed to enhance provison. The role is collaborative and good relationships are the key to success. Additionally, the Special Education Advisor will build a rapport with a school, offering training sessions to ensure all stakeholders are well-informed about best practices in special education for the learner. The role requires multidisciplinary working with therapists and other agencies.
This role is best suited to a senior leader / SENDCo looking to leave direct school / classroom based input and advise others. The post is office based and requires travel around the country. Typical working hours are 37.5 per week but days may be extended due to travel time (to be taken back as time in lieu). The role requires learning about SEND law in order to advise on EHCPs and provision. Each week varies with a variety of desk based meetings and calls, school and home visits and report writing. The postholder needs to be very confident in their knowledge of SEND and keen to use this - the case load is busy but time is available to assess, input and guide - our team make a difference to the outcomes for children and young people by having time to follow through on advice - time can be dedicated to a learner to ensure their needs are met. We support children aged 3-25 and expertise across any part of this age range will be considered. The role is not term time and holiday entitlement is the equivalent of 9 weeks per year.
