Westcombe Engineering – Machinist
Peterborough City Council is seeking a dedicated and technically strong Skilled CNC Machinist to play a key role in our precision engineering team. As a member of our workshop you will set up, run and monitor CNC machinery for batch production of high‑quality components, helping us fulfil our reputation for cost‑effective solutions and exceptional service.
All About The Role
In this role you will:
 * Prepare CNC machines (Milling and Turning) for production runs – selecting tooling, setting feeds and speeds, and ensuring safe operation.
 * Read, edit and write CNC programs, making adjustments as required to maintain accuracy and efficiency.
 * Monitor machine performance, inspect parts during production, and work with quality checks to maintain tolerances.
 * Troubleshoot machining problems, re‑set or re‑run as needed, minimising downtime.
 * Collaborate with production planners, engineers and quality teams to meet deadlines and maintain workflow.
 * Uphold safety standards, maintain clean and orderly workstations, support continuous improvement.

 * Proven experience as a machinist (CNC or manual).
 * Ability to read and interpret technical drawings.
 * Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality.
 * Positive attitude and willingness to learn and support others.
