Role Overview
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Strategic Ecologist to join our Natural Capital team.
You’ll be responsible for assisting in the delivery of our strategic ecology services across our Rural, Planning and Development teams. The work is hugely varied and you will be at the forefront of deploying and advising on rapidly evolving environmental policy in both the rural and urban spheres. Our work focuses on strategic ecology and the peer review of work through the lens of creating value for clients.
You’ll be based out of our Manchester or Birmingham office, and your focus will be in the following areas:
•Habitat Bank delivery, including habitat design, costings, production of Habitat Management and Monitoring Plans and monitoring sites once operational;
•Undertaking baseline ecological surveys;
•Ecological due diligence covering all aspects of ecology, and advising on optimising BNG opportunities;
•Peer reviewing ecological documentation;
•Undertaking Biodiversity Net Gain assessments;
•Coordinating the delivery of ecological services via 3rd parties;
•Effective stakeholder engagement, including corresponding with Natural England, environmental Non-Government Organisations (eNGOs), and Local Planning Authorities.
The successful candidate will also be able to provide commercially astute advice on BNG and wider ecological delivery/optimisation and work as part of multi-disciplinary teams to balance the competing needs of development and land uses.

Savills Natural Capital team provides advice on a wide range of natural capital matters and ecosystem services nationally. Our clients range from institutional landowners, public bodies and small to large scale developers, including Nationally Significant Infrastructure Projects. The team comprises a range of specialists including ecologists, land managers, regenerative agricultural consultants and natural capital brokers.
The wider Rural division operates across the UK, with a network of 37 offices and a number of estate offices from Inverness in the North to Truro in the South-West
