Consultant Medical Oncologist

We are looking for an enthusiastic Consultant Medical Oncologist (Upper and Lower GI) and Acute Oncology Service to join our team at The Princess Alexandra Hospital NHS Trust. The successful candidate will provide high‑quality clinical care, contribute to service development, and educate and train resident staff.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will provide expert clinical leadership and specialist care in the management of patients with upper and lower GI cancers, working as part of a multidisciplinary oncology team. They will deliver high quality care, participate in MDT decision‑making, and support the development of innovative treatment pathways across the GI tumour sites.
Opportunities for teaching, supervision and training of other medical staff, specialist nurses and allied health professionals are included. The consultant will be encouraged to participate in clinical research, recruit to national trials, and support the expansion of research activity within the GI oncology portfolio.

Job responsibilities
This substantive consultant post will be based at The Princess Alexandra Hospital in Harlow. Working closely with our existing team, the role will cover GI oncology and the Acute Oncology Service. The post holder will be responsible for providing high quality patient care, attending MDT and outpatient clinics, and supporting the AOS team.
A key aspect of the role is the development of the GI research portfolio. Our R&D department is highly supportive and actively encourages expansion of clinical trial activity, offering excellent opportunities for the post holder to lead and grow research within the GI service.
* Provide senior clinician services in Upper & Lower GI Oncology & AOS as per job plan agreed within the Trust.
* Work with consultant colleagues, nursing & therapies staff to ensure efficient use of Trust resources and contribute actively to clinical governance in the department and to the development of quality enhancement projects in the Unit.
* Develop the research portfolio in GI malignancies.
* Attend MDT as required to support Peer Review Compliance.

Person Specification
Qualifications
* MBBS or equivalent
* MRCP or evidence of equivalent qualification
* Entry on the General Medical Council (GMC) Specialist Register for medical oncology via one of the following:
o a) Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) (the proposed CCT date must be within 6 months of the interview)
o b) Certificate of Eligibility for Specialist Registration (CESR)
o c) European Community Rights
* MD or relevant PhD or equivalent
Experience
* Wide experience in oncology specifically GI tumour sites.
