Position Overview:

Midwest Engines & Generators (MEG) is seeking a Project Engineer to lead the design, development, and management of custom generator enclosure projects from concept through completion.

This role ensures that all enclosures meet performance, safety, and compliance standards while aligning with customer specifications, project budgets, and schedules. The Project Engineer acts as the primary technical liaison between engineering, manufacturing, procurement, and clients.


Key Responsibilities:


Project Management:

* Lead the engineering and design phases of generator enclosure projects, including planning, budgeting, scheduling, and execution.
* Coordinate with internal teams (electrical, mechanical, and structural engineering) to ensure design integrity and project efficiency.
* Manage multiple projects simultaneously while maintaining timelines and quality standards.
* Prepare and review project documentation, including drawings, material specifications, and submittals.
* Conduct design reviews and ensure adherence to customer and industry standards.


Design and Engineering:

* Develop detailed 2D and 3D CAD models and drawings for custom generator enclosures, fuel tanks, and skid-mounted assemblies.
* Calculate airflow, noise attenuation, structural load, and thermal performance for enclosure systems.
* Select appropriate materials, finishes, and insulation to meet environmental and operational requirements.
* Ensure compliance with applicable codes and standards (UL, NFPA, NEC, ISO, EPA, etc.).
* Collaborate with vendors to source materials, parts, and components.
* Support prototype builds and provide technical guidance during fabrication and assembly.


Technical and Customer Support:

* Serve as the primary technical contact for customers throughout the project lifecycle.
* Review and interpret customer specifications and drawings to ensure accurate design execution.
* Provide engineering support during installation, commissioning, and troubleshooting.
* Deliver technical reports, presentations, and documentation for clients and stakeholders.


Quality and Compliance:

* Ensure all designs meet company quality standards and applicable regulatory requirements.
* Participate in design validation, testing, and continuous improvement initiatives.
* Collaborate with the quality assurance team to resolve design or manufacturing issues.


Qualifications:


Education:

* Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related field (required).
* Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred but not required.


Experience:

* 3-7 years of experience in mechanical or project engineering, ideally in the power generation or manufacturing industry.
* Experience with generator sets, sound-attenuated enclosures, or industrial packaging systems.
* Proven ability to manage projects from concept through production.


Technical Skills:

* Proficiency in CAD software (SolidWorks, AutoCAD, or equivalent).
* Knowledge of structural design, HVAC systems, sound attenuation, and thermal management.
* Familiarity with power generation equipment and systems integration.
* Knowledge of UL listings and electrical codes.
* Strong understanding of fabrication, welding, and sheet metal processes.


Soft Skills:

* Excellent communication and organizational skills.
* Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
* Ability to work independently and in cross-functional teams.
* Detail-oriented with a focus on quality and efficiency.


Working Conditions:

* Office and manufacturing environment with occasional field or customer site visits.
* May require travel to supplier or client locations (up to 15%).
