Therapy Assistant Practitioner - Stroke Therapy

We are pleased to announce an exciting opportunity for a Band 4 Therapy Assistant to work within the Stroke Therapy Team at University Hospitals Dorset.
We are looking for a motivated and compassionate individual to join our Stroke Therapy team. You will work closely with Physiotherapists, Occupational Therapists, and Speech and Language Therapists to support the assessment, treatment, and rehabilitation of people following stroke.
The key responsibilities of this role are to work alongside therapists in assessing and rehabilitating stroke patients, organising and coordinating therapy groups, and supporting qualified therapists in discharge processes such as access visits. Administrative responsibilities will also be required to support the qualified therapists.
Main duties of the job
Previous experience of working with stroke patients in an acute hospital or community setting is essential. The post holder must have a Foundation Degree in health or an equivalent assistant practitioner qualification.
The role involves 7‑day working; weekend rosters will be expected. Competency levels will be achieved with support and training provided through a structured in‑house programme and a supportive team of clinical staff.
Ideally the successful applicant will have a full driving licence, own a car, and be able to assess patients in their home environment with the support of qualified clinicians. We welcome both full‑time and part‑time applicants.

Qualifications
* Minimum 4 GCSEs A–C / 5–9 or equivalent
* Foundation Degree in health or an equivalent assistant practitioner qualification
Experience
* Previous work as a Therapy Assistant or equivalent involving direct patient care
* Experience working in NHS hospital or community healthcare settings
* Experience delivering rehab programmes to individuals or groups
Skills and Knowledge
* Understanding of stroke and neurological conditions and their impact on patients
* Knowledge of basic rehab techniques
* Ability to move and handle patients
* Full UK Driving Licence
