The Patch Associate GP Dean will assist and work with the Primary Care Dean and the Heads of School for General Practice to ensure the delivery of safe and compassionate care to patients through high-quality GP specialty training.
The postholder will have local responsibility for the coordination, provision, and management of postgraduate general practice training activities within the Cornwall GP training programme.
The role may expand in the future and could involve some wider regional work.
This role is for 4 sessions / 16 hours per week, involving overseeing placement and recruitment issues, developing wider placements, and capacity to support GP expansion.
It includes formulating strategy, managing and overseeing local education budgets, leadership activities within the School of Primary Care, and line management of TPDs.
The role also involves working with Educational and Clinical Supervisors to support quality supervision and education for trainees.
Additionally, the postholder will support the development of the Primary Care workforce in Devon through multi-professional education, recruitment, retention initiatives, and system-level activities.
Main duties of the job
As an Associate Dean, you will be part of the extended Senior GP educator team, involved in the approval process for Trainers and Practices within the Southwest, and supporting ARCP panels.
You will work closely with the Head of Schools, other Associate Deans, Training Programme Directors, Patch administrators, and Directors of Medical Education.
Your responsibilities include delivering and overseeing projects to support doctors in training and educators, including induction, support, small group work, and serving as an escalation point.
