Teaching Assistant (SEMH/ASC/SLD) – Alnwick

Start Date: September 2025
Location: Alnwick, Northumberland
Contract Type: Full-time, Term Time Only
Salary: £89–£103 per day PAYE (depending on experience)

-----------------------------------

About the Role

We are looking for a compassionate, adaptable and committed Teaching Assistant to join a vibrant specialist setting in Alnwick that supports pupils aged 2–19 with a wide range of needs, including Autism (ASC), Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) challenges, and Severe Learning Difficulties (SLD).

Working alongside a skilled and supportive team, you’ll play a vital role in helping pupils access learning, build confidence, and develop the social and emotional tools they need to thrive—both in school and beyond.

This is a fantastic opportunity to be part of a setting that truly celebrates individuality, encourages self-belief, and places kindness, equality and respect at the heart of everything it does.

The right candidate may get the opportunity to go Permanent with this role.

-----------------------------------

Key Responsibilities

* Provide tailored support to pupils across the curriculum, both in class and in small group or 1:1 settings

* Assist with implementing EHCP targets, communication strategies, and behaviour support plans

* Support the development of life skills, emotional regulation and independence

* Use low-arousal, trauma-informed approaches to help pupils manage anxiety or behavioural challenges

* Contribute to a calm, structured, and nurturing learning environment

* Work closely with teachers, therapists, and families to ensure a consistent and collaborative approach

* Help pupils engage positively with routines, transitions and peer relationships

-----------------------------------

What We’re Looking For

* Experience supporting children or young people with SEMH, ASC and/or SLD (in schools, care or community settings)

* A calm, patient and empathetic approach with strong relationship-building skills

* Understanding of communication differences, sensory needs and emotional triggers

* Willingness to learn and reflect as part of a dedicated team

* A genuine belief in every child’s potential

* Drivers or those able to reliably commute to Alnwick are strongly encouraged to apply due to the school’s location

-----------------------------------

What the School Offers

* A warm, welcoming environment where individuality is celebrated

* An experienced and inclusive staff team with strong leadership support

* A values-driven culture rooted in Kindness, Equality, Respect, Co-operation and Determination

* Ongoing CPD and opportunities for professional growth in SEND and therapeutic approaches

-----------------------------------

This role would suit someone with experience in SEND, youth work, or care who is looking to make a real impact in a specialist education setting.
