DMJ are delighted to partner with Lincolnshire Co-op in their search for a new General Counsel and Group Secretary.
This is a unique opportunity to sit on the executive board of one of the most successful independent consumer co-operatives in the UK.
Owned by their 300,000 members, the people of Lincolnshire and surrounding counties for more than 160 years, Lincolnshire Co-op has a business portfolio including property development, management, acquisition, and disposal.
In this role, as General Counsel, you will:
* Develop and manage relationships with external law firms and ensure that any external legal resource is appropriate for the advice sought and cost-effective.
* Provide legal input on all transaction and contractual negotiations, protecting the Society’s interests and ensuring proper due diligence.
* Develop the Society’s legal knowledge and contract management systems, ensuring complete and accessible contract documentation.
* Advise support areas such as procurement, employment, health and safety, transport, etc., on legal matters.
* Horizon-scan to define the legal and regulatory landscape in which the Society operates.
* Ensure effective processes for executing contracts and legal documents by authorized signatories.
* Protect and enhance the Society’s reputation by providing timely legal services.
* Develop legal knowledge management and horizon-scanning capabilities.
* Show leadership to promote an open and inclusive culture aligned with the Society’s values of being Helpful, Inspiring, and Trustworthy.
* Provide high-quality legal input to the Board and SLT deliberations.
* Coordinate responses to litigation or legal challenges.
* Navigate complex stakeholder landscapes with good judgment.
As Company Secretary, you will:
* Provide high-quality company secretarial and governance services, including for subsidiary businesses.
* Manage director onboarding and induction training.
* Support the appointment process for new directors.
