We're currently looking for a passionate and driven Field Technician to join the environment and permitting team, covering sites in the Northeast of England—from north Nottinghamshire to Northumberland, along the A1 corridor. Main Responsibilities for the Field Technician
Reporting directly to the Environmental Monitoring Manager, you will be responsible for undertaking environmental monitoring duties, including sampling groundwater, surface waters, and landfill leachate, recording water levels, and measuring concentrations of landfill gas. You will report the results and follow-up actions to ensure the Company's quarries and landfill sites operate to minimize environmental impact and comply with legislative requirements. You will collate and report data accurately and ensure compliance with reporting schedules.
Importantly, around 90% of your work will be field-based, outdoors in all weather conditions, including site visits.
Please note: You must hold a Full UK car driving license with no more than 6 penalty points to be considered. A 4x4 vehicle and fuel card will be provided, fully expensed but not for private use.
Key Responsibilities for Field Technician
1. Contribute to improving safety performance by complying with health and safety requirements.
2. Carry out environmental monitoring on sites, including quarries and landfills, following company procedures and industry best practices.
3. Plan and manage your own time and workload monthly.
4. Input collected data into monitoring databases.
5. Support maintenance of environmental management plans for closed landfills, aligning with EMS requirements.
6. Engage with regulators regarding closed landfill sites.
7. Undertake other environmental monitoring duties as required.
8. Advise site management, geologists, and estates teams on permit or trigger level breaches related to landfill gas, water quality, and water levels, to facilitate corrective actions.
9. Support the Environmental Monitoring Manager as needed.
The Ideal Candidate for Field Technician
This role requires good time management, self-motivation, and the ability to work independently following complex procedures. Experience in data collection and reporting, computer literacy (spreadsheets and databases), and effective communication with stakeholders are advantageous.
