Job Description:
The salary for this role is £56,596 (inclusive of a Specialist Allowance). Onsite working is expected for 5 days each week.
This role is based at Culham, Oxfordshire.
This role requires employees to complete an online Baseline Personnel Security Standard (BPSS), including The Disclosure & Barring Service (DBS) checks for criminal convictions and possibly a search of open source data.
The Role

As Operations Team Leader (Waste Services), you will play a pivotal role in managing and developing staff within your team, and ensuring the availability and performance of all TFC’s tritium/waste operational equipment and capabilities.
Overall Purpose: The Tritium Fuel Cycle (TFC) division leads the delivery of tritium lifecycle solutions for sustainable fusion energy, aiming to maximize scientific and economic benefits. The division is responsible for high-impact research, development programmes, designing, delivering, and operating cutting-edge tritium lifecycle facilities, and developing collaborations and a community of experts.
The operational groups within TFC operate unique facilities to enable research and development teams pursuing tritium lifecycle development. The team focuses on testing and verifying viable fusion tritium lifecycle technologies while minimizing operational liabilities. The Operations Team Leader manages and develops staff, ensuring operational equipment and capabilities are maintained.
Accountabilities:
* Ensure staff safety, health, and welfare in accordance with policies and procedures.
* Promote UKAEA’s values, fostering a culture of equality, diversity, and inclusion.
* Manage staff effectively, including resource allocation, recruitment, knowledge transfer, welfare, objectives, performance, absence, professional development, and coaching.
* Ensure qualified staff are in place to meet UKAEA standards and regulations.
* Support and/or deliver projects with technical leadership and advice.
* Support decommissioning strategies, liability reduction, and waste disposal.
* Fulfill duties of and hold the Authority to Operate (ATO) for nominated facilities.
* Manage asset database related to facilities and services.
* Act as contract project manager for third-party suppliers.
* Represent TFC’s offerings and collaborate with stakeholders and regulators.
Qualifications
Essential Requirements:
* Educated to HND level or equivalent in a relevant discipline or demonstrable experience.
* Knowledge of fusion and controlled wastes.
* IOSH Managing Safely certification.
* Excellent communication skills.
* Experience managing multidisciplinary teams.
* Ability to interact with stakeholders at all levels.
* Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
