Scope of Appointment:
This role will be responsible for the design of high-volume injection moulded sharps containers and their auxiliaries. Design for safety, sustainability and manufacture are at the heart of what we do. You will work closely with cross-functional teams, from concept development and user research to final production and regulatory approval. The successful candidate will ideally possess a strong understanding of injection moulding and medical device design principles and regulatory compliance while applying their design expertise to create user-centred, sustainable, manufacturable, and cost-effective products.

Principal Accountabilities:
* Design and develop innovative solutions for the safe disposal of sharps and clinical waste, and prototype and test to ensure designs meet current regulatory framework and user needs.
* Utilise CAD software and your understanding of injection moulding principles to create optimised products, with a strong focus on design for manufacturing and lowest carbon options.
* Maintain accurate testing reports and present ideas to colleagues and customers at various stages of the design process.
* Set design and performance requirements based on briefs from internal and external partners.
* Own and maintain documentation required to satisfy quality management systems for product development and change control processes.
* Identify, review and improve the design of existing products.
* Review competitor products and market trends, to help identify unique selling points.
* Work on multiple projects simultaneously while meeting schedule, cost, and quality controls.
* Project manage assigned projects and provide leadership for multidisciplinary core team meetings to ensure project progression.
* Design and maintain product labelling, meeting regulatory requirements.
Skills and Experience
Essential
* Apprenticeship/HNC/HND in Product Design or equivalent working experience.
* 5+ years previous experience in a product/industrial design or engineering role.
* 5+ years previous experience designing injection moulding products.
* Proven ability to take products from concept through to production.
* Skilfully manage multiple projects and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
* Expert in CAD modelling and document control.
* Strong understanding of Design for Manufacture and Moldflow.
* Experience engaging effectively with internal teams, customers, and suppliers.
* Proficient user of the full Microsoft Office package.
Desirable
* BA/BSc degree in Product/Industrial Design (or an equivalent qualification).
* Experience of regulated product design.
* Experience in design for low cost, high volume manufacture.
* Autodesk Inventor CAD software.
* Sound understanding of layout design through use of Adobe suite (Illustrator and InDesign).
* Experience of Finite Element Analysis (FEA)
