The role

We have an exciting opportunity for a KS2 Class Teacher to join our Designated Provision for Children with Social, Emotional and Mental Health Difficulties (SEMH) at Oakwood Avenue Community Primary School.

We aim to make a difference to the education and life chances of the vulnerable children in our care.

Are you an inspiring teacher who can engage and build positive relationships with challenging children? Do you want a change of direction? Or are you looking for an exciting career development opportunity?

We are looking for a dynamic, resilient and reflective teacher to deliver quality first teaching to our mixed ability primary pupils with a range of complex needs. You will promote high standards of attendance, behaviour and learning and have the ability to engage with children’s social and emotional needs to overcome their barriers to learning.

Our ideal candidate will have:

1. Qualified teacher status with inclusive practice
2. Bring warmth, patience and empathy to the role
3. Build strong, trusting relationships that help children regulate their emotions, develop resilience and celebrate their strengths
4. See the potential in every child, even if they can’t see it in themselves yet
5. Communicate openly and kindly, building strong relationships with families and colleagues
6. Plan creatively and adapt learning so that every child can access and enjoy it
7. Are ready to embrace our values and help shape a nurturing, inclusive community
8. Experience of the curriculum and expectations in KS1 and KS2
9. Experience of working with primary aged children with social, emotional and behavioural needs

We offer:

10. An organisation with a clear moral purpose to change young people’s lives
11. Support and guidance from our experienced Assistant Head/SENCO who leads the DPs and the
experienced and established team
12. Excellent opportunities for professional development
13. Small class sizes (currently 12 children)
14. Strong community spirit
15. Staff who are supportive towards each other
16. Excellent teaching assistants and pastoral support.

Oakwood Avenue Community Primary School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. The appointments are subject to enhanced disclosure from the Disclosure & Barring Service.
