Offer description

What difference will you make?

As Treasurer of DEBRA, you will play a pivotal role in enabling the charity to transform the lives of people living with Epidermolysis Bullosa (EB). Your impact will be felt in three powerful ways.

* First, you will safeguard DEBRA’s financial sustainability, ensuring that the charity can continue to fund vital research, provide specialist care and support services, and advocate for improved treatment and awareness of EB. By offering strong financial oversight, insight, and challenge, you will help the Board make confident, well‑informed decisions that maximise the impact of every pound raised.
* Second, you will enable long‑term progress towards better treatments and ultimately a cure. Sound financial stewardship underpins DEBRA’s ability to invest in medical research, respond to emerging opportunities, and maintain funding through periods of uncertainty. Your contribution will directly support the charity’s ambition to accelerate progress for the EB community.
* Third, you will strengthen trust and confidence among beneficiaries, donors, partners, and regulators alike. By ensuring robust financial governance, transparency, and risk management, you will help DEBRA remain a credible, resilient, and trusted organisation, worthy of the commitment shown by those who fundraise, donate, and campaign in support of its mission.

What are we looking for?

The Skills Required For This Role Include:

* Senior financial expertise, gained in roles such as Finance Director, CFO, Head of Finance, Audit Partner, or equivalent, with the ability to interpret and challenge complex financial information.
* Strong financial governance and oversight skills, including budgeting, financial controls, risk management, and long‑term financial planning.
* Experience of operating at board or senior leadership level, with the confidence to provide constructive challenge and sound judgement.
* High levels of integrity and independence, with a clear understanding of the trustee role and collective responsibility.
* Ability to communicate financial matters clearly, translating complex information into accessible insight for non‑financial trustees.
* Commitment to the charity’s purpose, and an understanding of the responsibility that comes with stewarding funds raised through public trust.

Desirable skills include

* Previous trustee or non‑executive experience, particularly within the charity, health, or not‑for‑profit sector.
* Experience of charity finance, including restricted funds, grant funding, and Charity Commission reporting (or a willingness to learn).

What will you be doing?

We seek an exceptional candidate with substantial professional financial expertise, underpinned by a recognised first‑tier accounting qualification.

You will bring proven experience in financial leadership and governance, combined with strong strategic insight to guide our long‑term sustainability.

The role of treasurer is to provide strategic financial leadership to the charity, ensuring robust financial oversight, effective risk management, and compliance with regulatory requirements, supporting the Board in fulfilling its fiduciary duties.

We look forward to your application.
