Purpose of The Role
1. We are looking to continue to grow our team and, in particular, our strength in Financial Services M&A at Managing Associate level (6+PQE).
2. The continued success of the team has led to an increase in the number and value of key mandates, and we are looking to recruit another talented and experienced member of the team to help support the future success of the practice. There is an exciting opportunity to play a central role in transaction delivery, client relationship development and the continued expansion of the team and practice, which will provide clear career progression opportunities.
3. You would support the partners and lead key workstreams on mandates. You would be both positively encouraged and expected to participate fully in business development activities, with a view to supporting the future growth and development of new and existing client relationships and our wider financial services practice and market reputation.
The Team
Our team is Tier 1 rated in the Legal Directories for upper mid-market deals and a recognised leader in our chosen sectors (financial services, retail & consumer, real estate, energy & infrastructure and healthcare) delivering more than 200 deals a year in over 40 different jurisdictions.
The range and scale of our client base and work in the financial services sector is extensive and includes advising many leading UK and international financial institutions on some of their most significant strategic matters and transactions.
Our substantial financial services practice extends across all key disciplines including corporate, commercial, financial regulation (including retail, wholesale, financial markets, digital assets and payments – both non-contentious and contentious), global investigations, funds and investment management, dispute resolution, finance, securitisation, restructuring, capital markets, employment and real estate amongst many other specialist areas.
Our Financial Services M&A team advises on a wide range of corporate transactions including private and public mergers and acquisitions, disposals, joint ventures, intra-group restructurings, cross-border transactions and a variety of strategic and regulatory driven projects. Our clients include many leading UK and international banks, such as Barclays, HSBC, Lloyds Banking Group, NatWest and Santander, building societies and mutuals, fintechs, asset and wealth managers, exchanges and financial markets infrastructure participants, digital assets and payments providers, private capital firms and non-bank lenders, brokers and insurers, amongst others.
Your Areas of Knowledge and Expertise
4. Experience of financial services focussed M&A and strategic transactions involving institutional clients is highly desired
5. Client-focussed thinking and commerciality – the ability to offer up solutions rather than merely identify problems
6. Self-motivated, flexible and willingness to own and deliver workstreams
7. Team dynamic is important in a fast-moving, market-facing transaction – strong communication and technical skills, positivity and proactivity are must-haves
8. Ability to collaborate alongside specialists in other practice areas (within the UK and internationally) and to co-ordinate client initiatives and effectively support transaction delivery
9. Willingness and enthusiasm to participate in externally-focussed business development activities and to play an important role in helping to build, develop and support key long-term relationships with new and established financial institution clients (both on and off transactions)
