Assistant Technical Engineer
We’re looking for an enthusiastic and proactive Assistant Technical Engineer to join the Catesby Estates team, part of Urban&Civic. This is an entry-level opportunity (around 1–3 years post‑grad) for someone eager to build their technical and project experience within residential development and strategic land promotion.
Working closely with our Technical Management Team, you’ll help assess and deliver new and existing development sites, supporting everything from early land appraisals to infrastructure design and planning consents. It’s a varied role that will give you exposure to many aspects of land and technical development, working alongside experienced professionals across planning, engineering, and project management.
This role is based at Houlton in Rugby, with some travel to sites across the country. A full UK driving licence is essential.
What You’ll Be Doing
* Supporting the Technical team in appraising new land opportunities and infrastructure delivery.
* Assisting in the coordination of technical assessments covering transport, drainage, flooding, geotechnical, heritage, ecology, and more.
* Carrying out site visits and reconnaissance to gather key technical and environmental information.
* Helping to manage external consultants to ensure best value and quality of delivery.
* Contributing to project budgets, technical appraisals, and cost plans.
* Working with planners, architects, engineers, and project managers across pre- and post-planning stages.
* Liaising with landowners, local authorities, and housebuilders as required.
* Supporting the preparation of reports, technical documents, and presentations.
* Ensuring compliance with CDM and other relevant regulations.
* Staying aware of any emerging technical or legislative issues that could affect the business.
What We’re Looking For
* 1–3 years’ experience in a technical or engineering role, ideally within a consultancy, housebuilder, or land promotion company.
* A degree, HNC or HND in Civil Engineering, Building Studies, or a related field.
* Solid understanding of technical design disciplines and development processes.
* Strong organisational and communication skills.
* A team player who’s self‑motivated, adaptable, and open to learning.
* Confident managing tasks, timelines, and priorities.
* Comfortable working both in the office and on‑site.
* Full, clean UK driving licence.
