As a content designer you will create content that helps our users complete their goal. Your work may involve the creation of, or change to, a transaction, product or content that stretches across digital and offline channels. You will:
• design clear and accessible content, ensuring this is shown to a user in the right place and in the best format
• work in Agile development teams, collaborating with user researchers, business analysts and interaction designers among others
• help shape our approach to content across the organisation, drawing on your thorough understanding of best practice e.g by networking with other Content Designers, reading relevant blogs, using social media and events to link up with people.
• be a champion for the council’s user-focused approach, and specifically for content design as a discipline, promoting the benefits of this approach across the organisation
• work closely with internal stakeholders, including product owners, to define and write content that meets user needs and satisfies business and statutory requirements, using evidence to explain decisions made.
• Understand and apply content lifecycle and continuous improvement best practice
Knowledge, Skills and Experience
1. Significant experience within an organisation, delivering similar services.
2. You will have a relevant professional or equivalent degree level qualification or you will have equivalent relevant experience.
3. You will demonstrate extensive knowledge and experience of contributing to developing processes, procedures and/or projects
4. You will have well-developed interpersonal skills for persuading, influencing and be able to build relationships and communicate effectively with customers.
5. You will have good literacy and report writing skills.
6. You will be able to understand and interpret complex data and provide solutions and recommendations to achieve appropriate outcomes.
7. You will have good analytical, numeracy and reasoning skills.
8. You will be able to work flexibly, cope with competing demands through good time management and work under pressure.
9. You will have the ability to monitor and or report on budgets budgets/financial information/resources.
10. You will have a good level of general IT skills and the ability to use appropriate specialist in-house software packages.
11. If relevant: you will be able to assist in the management and develop a team.

Essential
⦁ Hold a relevant degree or equivalent relevant professional qualification or equivalent relevant experience
⦁ Experience of designing content for large, high profile, public-facing websites
⦁ Excellent written communication skills, with the ability to translate complex information into Plain English
⦁ Experience of user-centric approaches to content design, with the ability to write user stories and design content to satisfy acceptance criteria
⦁ A thorough understanding of content design best practice; able to draw on relevant resources and networks in support of your work and professional development
⦁ The ability to work autonomously and collaboratively as required
⦁ Experience of using content management systems
⦁ Excellent interpersonal and influencing skills – able to proactively build effective working relationships at all levels
⦁ Highly evolved problem-solving skills and the ability to manage and prioritise a busy workload
⦁ Experience of working within a strategic context, understanding how activities contribute towards strategic goals, and contributing to the development of strategy and policy
