This is an exciting opportunity to provide leadership to the Hazardous Waste team on the day-to-day activities of the regime. This work complements efforts on regulatory reform and will likely involve helping the team transition the regime from reform to ‘business as usual’.
The role duties and responsibilities include:
* Waste classification technical leadership
* Technical leadership for Hazardous Waste compliance and initiatives to improve compliance
* Enhanced leadership of priority waste streams
* Providing technical support focused on priority waste streams, driven by area and national teams
* Tackling regulatory challenges, securing long-term improvements, and supporting Defra with circular economy work on Hazardous Waste
* Having a Hazardous Waste enforcement focus to support actions in the control strategy aimed at reducing offending
The team
The Environment & Business (E&B) Hazardous Waste team is a small, high-performing team within the Regime Regulation team of E&B Waste Regulation. We lead on hazardous waste management, supporting government, industry, and colleagues to ensure proper handling of hazardous waste. We promote a positive, inclusive, and supportive culture where everyone feels valued, using evidence, expertise, engagement, and innovation to influence policy, legislation, and secure resources.

The role is based in an EA Office, with flexible/hybrid working arrangements. Some travel and overnight stays may be required.
