St Thomas Catholic Voluntary Academy is a lovely and friendly school situated in the parish of Our Lady and St Thomas of Hereford in Ilkeston. We have 227 very kind and welcoming children at the school; dedicated staff and excellent facilities.

The core purpose of the deputy headteacher in a Catholic school is to assist the headteacher to set and implement the strategic direction of the school and to provide professional leadership and management to drive the achievement of high standards in all areas of the school’s work, particularly in ensuring the provision of sustainable outstanding education through the preservation and development of its Catholic character.
Teaching, Learning, and Outcomes
* Promote and sustain high-quality teaching and learning across the school, with a particular focus on Key Stage 4 performance measures.
* Monitor and evaluate the impact of teaching on pupil progress and attainment, providing support and challenge to teachers as needed.
* Identify and implement evidence-based strategies to enhance teaching and learning, particularly in areas of underperformance.
* Ensure the school's commitment to inclusion and high expectations for all pupils is reflected in classroom practice.
The Role
We are seeking an inspirational Deputy Headteacher who will work closely with the Headteacher and Trust leadership team to provide strategic and operational leadership. This is a unique opportunity to play a key role in shaping the future of our school and its community.
Key Responsibilities
* Assist the Headteacher in the leadership and management of the school, upholding the Catholic ethos and values.
* Drive improvements in teaching, learning, and assessment, ensuring outstanding outcomes for all students.
* Lead on curriculum design and development.
* Build and sustain effective relationships with pupils, parents, staff, governors, and the wider community.

The ideal candidate will be a practising Catholic with a deep understanding of and commitment to the teachings and mission of the Catholic Church. The candidate is an experienced leader, passionate about making a difference in students’ lives and able to inspire and motivate those around them.
