As a Principal Naval Architect at Expleo, you will be dynamic and responsive to changes in technology, innovation, and client requirements. You will have the opportunity to get involved in concept surface and sub-surface vessel design, complex engineering design and analysis tasks, the creation of new and innovative tools and processes, the delivery of engineering consultancy services, and the development of decarbonisation solutions and other emerging technologies across a wide range of global maritime programmes.

Your primary place of work could be one of our three main UK office locations (Bristol, Derby or Preston) with occasional travel to client sites required, dependent upon project.
Responsibilities Apply and continue to develop a breadth of engineering skills in the discipline of Naval Architecture and, where applicable, other related disciplines.
Define and conduct engineering analyses, technical studies and research and development projects, using your knowledge and experience to deliver high quality solutions to our customers and clients.
Provide mentoring support, guidance and leadership and enable opportunities for our Naval Architects to grow and develop their technical and behavioural skills, knowledge and experience.
Investigate and solve complex technical problems in concept, basic and detailed design phases.
Develop and maintain written technical and administrative procedures, standards, processes, practices, guidelines and standards.
Assist with the maintenance and improvement of quality standards of engineering, design and production information.
Interface directly with our customers and clients, representing our teams to discuss engineering solutions to complex problems.
Qualifications Degree qualified in a relevant STEM discipline (e.g., Naval Architecture, Ship Science, Marine Technology, Marine Engineering), or equivalent experience in the naval and commercial ship design, construction, or maintenance domain.
Professional member of a relevant engineering institution (e.g., RINA, IMarEST, IMechE, IET).
Recognised as an Incorporated or Chartered Engineer by the UK Engineering Council (or able to achieve within 12 months).

Desired Skills An understanding of the role of a Naval Architect throughout all stages of the design lifecycle.
An understanding of classification society rules, regulations, and standards in the design, construction, and in-service lifecycle phases.
Experience The successful candidate will ideally have a minimum of 4 years post-graduate experience (8 years for non-degree qualified) working in either the commercial or naval maritime domain.
Experienced in at least one of the following key technical knowledge areas: Hydrostatic, seakeeping and stability analysis; Propulsion, resistance, and powering requirements; Hydrodynamic and manoeuvring analysis; Marine structure design and analysis; Ship design including hull form, superstructure, arrangement and outfitting.
Experience of using Naval Architecture design and analysis software packages (e.g., SolidWorks, AutoCAD, MaxSurf, NAPA, Aveva, Paramarine, Orcaflex, Ansys Structural/Fluent, MatLab, MS Excel).
Experience of whole ship design including assessment of performance, design integration, construction, and through-life maintenance.
Experience of working in multi-company and engineering discipline teams with an ability to communicate effectively.
Experience in a technical consulting environment, leading and/or supporting multiple engineering projects and customers.
What Do I Need Before I Apply The post will be based in an environment regulated by Trade Control legislation and involve working with controlled goods, technology and/or services.
