Ranger - Nr Romsey Summary As a Ranger, you’re a champion of nature conservation and the great outdoors, and you’ll play a crucial role in keeping the nation’s beloved countryside and coast in good shape, for wildlife and for people. You'll report to one of the lead rangers and be working a 37.5 hour week across 5 days. Currently this role does not include weekend working. you may be required to work some bank holidays. What it's like to work here You'll join a busy and dedicated ranger team based at Mottisfont Abbey, ensuring the places we care for are presented at their best for the nation. We take huge pride in the special qualities of these places and what they mean to our visitors and communities and work hard to protect this. We are lucky enough to manage 6000 acres of Hampshire countryside, across a diversity of internationally important habitats, including butterfly rich chalk downland, world renowned chalk stream, ancient and plantation woodlands, saltmarsh tidal estuary, heathland, wood pasture and mire systems and they all need vital management to protect and enhance them as well as managing visitor access and recreational pressures across them. Click here for more information about this location What you'll be doing You’ll be supporting our operational focus upon tree safety and outdoor furniture together with practical maintenance and habitat management. You'll have decent knowledge and experience in machinery and tools, their operation, servicing and repair. You may be involved in species surveys, tree planting projects, river restoration works, PAWS felling – the work is varied and plentiful! We have a range of forestry machinery and plant equipment and experience and knowledge in their use and maintenance would be highly beneficial. You’ll enjoying working as part of a team alongside Rangers and volunteers whilst completing some tasks on your own. You’ll make sure that the conservation work and outdoor experiences on the land in your care are of the highest standard. You’ll build relationships in the local community, proudly representing the Trust and letting people know about the work you and the team are doing.
