Birkett House is a very popular and successful all age special school for pupils with learning difficulties. We are a multi-sited school in south Leicestershire. The main school site is in Wigston and we also have inclusion units at Thistly Meadow Primary School (Blaby), Little Hill Primary School (Wigston), Thomas Estley Community College (Broughton Astley) and a purpose built Senior Department based in Countesthorpe. We are currently looking for Teaching Assistants at our various sites to start as soon as possible.
Job Information:
A Teaching Assistant is an integral member of a class team and works under the direction of a Class Teacher and Senior Teaching Assistant, supporting groups of children within a class and across a department. Contract type: Term time only (38 weeks per year) + 5 additional training days
Contract term: Full time, Permanent working Monday to Friday
Hours: 32.50 or 33.75 hrs/wk, 8.30am to 3.45pm or 8am to 3.15pm (site dependent)
Grade: Grade 5, Point 7 (£13.05 per hour)
Actual starting salary: £18,938 or £19,669 (site dependent) pro rata of F.T.E. £25,191.

Shortlisting will take place on 17th October. Applications will go through a two-stage process. Stage 1 - Shortlisted candidates will be expected to spend half a day in school with a class group (this visit is essential to the interview procedure). This will be your time to shine and show us your capabilities, experience and knowledge. It will also give you the chance to see what it is like working in our school and will give you the opportunity to ask any questions regarding the role. Class visits will take place w/c 27th October. Stage 2 - Our classes will then provide their feedback, which will enable us to make a decision on whether you will progress to the interview stage. Applicants who are successful at their class visits will be invited for an interview on 4th November 2025 (or 6th November could be considered).
