Job Title: Self-employed Personal Assistant
Location: Pembroke Dock
Hours Offered: 6 hours per week
Hourly Rate: £18.71 Self-Employed; £12.60 employed
Work Pattern: 1 day in the week and 1 on the weekend
Reporting to: The Direct Payments Recipient (The Direct Payments Recipient is the employer and they hold all the employer’s responsibilities associated with this role. Pembrokeshire County Council supports them to fulfil their employer obligations).
Introduction
A Direct Payments recipient in Pembrokeshire is looking to employ a Personal Assistant to support them with their care needs. This post is funded through the Direct Payments scheme, which aims to enable the client to manage their support and meet their care needs independently. The successful applicant should be friendly and supportive and be able to work flexibly to meet the care needs of the client.
Responsibilities
* Develop a reliable and trusting relationship with the person.
* Work with the person to understand their needs and wishes.
* Support the person to organise and manage the household.
* Take the person to the supermarket.
* Help with arranging a weekly diet and meal planning.
* Support the person in accessing activities of importance.
* Support the person to shower and manage personal care.
* Support the employer in developing independent living skills.
* Provide companionship in the employer’s home, including engaging in conversation and providing social interaction.
* Ensure the employer’s safety at all times during working hours.
* Carry out any other reasonable tasks requested by the employer during working hours.
* Be mindful of safeguarding issues and feedback any concerns to the relevant authority.
* Be responsible for contacting the GP, Social Worker or Local Authority should medical assistance be needed.

* Has good local knowledge
* Good time-keeping and flexibility around working patterns and duties
* Good communicator
* Able to develop a supportive and consistent relationship
Other Requirements
* A full, clean driving licence and use of a car is required.
* You must have business use on your vehicle insurance to be able to use the vehicle within work hours.
* Training provided, if required.
* Applicant must be able to work with a small Pug dog.
Safeguarding and DBS
Safeguarding and protecting children and adults at risk is of high importance, and is everybody’s business. This appointment is subject to a DBS disclosure check, at no cost to the applicant. We would recommend that the applicant registers on the DBS update service. Being on this service will enable you to speed up any future job applications for personal assistant roles. There is a charge of £16.00 per year for this service which will be refunded.
