Once competency is confirmed, the competent pay will be paid in line with the agreed national joint council.
The purpose of this role is to inspect and audit low-risk business premises in Surrey to ensure compliance with the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 on behalf of the fire authority. Support the wider teams in Surrey Fire and Rescue to deliver the objectives of the 2025 CRMP, making buildings and their occupants safer through education and enforcement. The role requires specialist and technical knowledge in fire safety, overseen by a more experienced manager.
Job Introduction
This role will be based at Walton-upon-Thames, Surrey, supported by an experienced team, many of whom are operational.
The role involves engaging with partners and business owners to lead and support lawful resolution of regulatory fire safety matters, ensuring compliance with the Fire Safety Order. Responsibilities include educating businesses and fire teams, managing inspection and audit schedules, planning follow-up visits, and determining enforcement actions based on audit outcomes.
Application Shortlisting Criteria
* Experience in regulation or enforcement of fire safety legislation or similar
* Qualifications and/or experience in Health and Safety
* Experience in fire safety or related activities
* Confident communication and stakeholder engagement skills
* Strong written communication and report writing skills – minimum GCSE English language and Maths
* Accelerated Business Safety Induction Course (ABSIC)
* Level 3 Certificate in Fire Safety or working towards it

This role, for Grey Book staff and Surrey Allowance, attracts an additional 10% reflecting its specialist nature, flexibility requirements, and operational competence including fitness.
