Service Centre Support Team (SCST) Lead
Part‑time role with the Child Maintenance Service, part of the Department for Work and Pensions. You will lead a small team and support senior leaders to ensure the Service Centres run safely, efficiently and with high quality service to customers.
Key Responsibilities
* Lead the team by setting clear goals, managing resources, developing capability and identifying risks.
* Demonstrate integrity, fairness and openness in leadership and foster a culture of accountability and continuous improvement.
* Ensure the site complies with Health and Safety laws, maintains up‑to‑date risk assessments and supports emergency and evacuation procedures.
* Support the Senior Responsible Officer by assuming delegated responsibilities as required.
* Create and update business continuity and incident management plans, test the plans regularly and manage incidents.
* Chair the Business Disruption Forum when necessary and promote calm, solution‑focused responses to disruptions.
* Plan and implement site projects, involve stakeholders, track progress and deliver high‑quality professional service on time.
* Run daily site operations, work with external partners and suppliers, secure the site, fix problems and organise building projects.
* Manage site space for all teams, work with Estates to ensure all teams have the resources they need, and oversee office moves.
* Practice empathy and inclusivity, ensuring the needs of all occupants are considered and addressed.
* Lead local employee relations talks, build good relationships with trade unions and help resolve site‑wide issues.
* Support CMS priorities by assisting with recruitment, sharing local communications and ensuring staff complete mandatory training.
* Build strong relationships with colleagues and stakeholders, chair key site meetings and work closely with internal and external partners, contractors and suppliers.
Person Specification – Essential Criteria
* Demonstrate in‑depth knowledge and experience of applying Health and Safety legislation in the workplace and act immediately on concerns.
* Proven track record in managing resources and priorities to deliver high‑quality, professional service.
* Strong leadership abilities: provide clear direction, influence decisions and encourage positive behaviour.
* Adept at organising and managing multiple projects and tasks simultaneously in a fast‑paced environment, with risk attention and flexibility.
* Strong skills in building effective working relationships with diverse colleagues, stakeholders and suppliers.
* Independent, proactive and able to take initiative to solve problems quickly and adapt to change.
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills, using clear language that everyone can understand.
Desirable Criteria
* A NEBOSH or IOSH qualification in occupational safety and health.
Benefits and Working Hours
* Annual salary of £44,447; DWP contributes £12,876 towards the Civil Service Defined Benefit Pension scheme.
* Annual leave 23 days rising to 30 days, plus public holidays.
* Flexible working options and a culture encouraging inclusion and diversity.
* Working hours: Monday to Friday from 07:45 to 20:00; Saturday from 08:45 to 17:00. Full‑time net hours 37 per week.
