Overview
AtkinsRéalis is one of the largest engineering and design consultancies in the UK, delivering multidisciplinary projects to clients. We provide design services to Water Companies, Local Authorities and Developers, including work related to Surface Water Management (SWM), drainage design and wastewater. We are seeking to appoint a Senior SuDS Drainage Engineer to strengthen our team and lead a dialogue on how green-blue infrastructure integrates with drainage, development and master planning.
The role suits an engineer with experience in SuDS who can take ownership of projects, deliver schemes and mentor more junior engineers. You will be part of a team within the Asset Planning and Solutions Practice.
Responsibilities
* Lead and contribute to the delivery of engineering projects from inception to handover, within budget and deadlines.
* Collaborate within a multidisciplinary environment across UK and international teams to ensure successful project delivery.
* Ensure the quality of project work meets agreed standards and specifications.
* Be client-focused, develop strong client relationships, and propose value‑driven technical solutions.
* Liaise with and support other multidisciplinary teams, Project Managers and Directors across UK and international markets.
* Mentor other team members; promote a proactive health and safety culture with good knowledge of CDM requirements.
* Lead and contribute to digital engineering initiatives and innovative water sector solutions.
Detailed role requirements
Qualifications:
* Degree qualified (or equivalent) in Civil Engineering or related subject with experience in the water industry.
Essential:
* Previous consultancy experience.
* Experience in Surface Water Management and drainage design / Water Engineering / Design.
* Technical experience in surface water management/drainage, water engineering or design; experience in one or more areas such as:
* Development drainage – surface water and foul.
* SuDS design.
* Highway drainage.
* Drainage modelling software (MicroDrainage or Causeway Flow).
* Hydraulic modelling software (InfoWorks ICM).
* Experience with design software related to SWM, Civil and Water Engineering.
* Experience of drainage design / SuDS and blue-green infrastructure design.
* Quality assurance experience and ability to deliver services to required standards.
* Proven track record of working collaboratively in project delivery teams.
* Excellent written and verbal communication with stakeholders (technical and non-technical).
Advantageous
* Understanding of related legislation.
* Experience with tools such as Civils3D or GIS software.
* Knowledge of statutory consents, discharge connections, planning approvals and assessments.
* Full UK driving licence.
* Chartered member of ICE or CIWEM or working towards chartership.
* Up-to-date knowledge of current design codes and guidance documents.
