Tasks and responsibilities:
Main purpose of job
* To strategically lead all activities related to the flow of stock through the distribution centre, from receipt through to despatch, ensuring they are completed safely and in line with Client expectations
* To manage the Client relationship at first line level, ensuring the Client is informed (through the correct channels) of all relevant information and that concerns are dealt with in a timely and constructive way
* To ensure the team proactively plan labour, equipment and activities in a cost-effective way, ensuring budgets are adhered to and exceeded where possible
* To promote and foster a culture of working safely and supporting the development of the team and the individuals within it
Profile:
Key tasks
* Ensuring capability in place at shift manager level to successfully lead the people and processes related to the receipt, picking, packing and loading of products
* Ensuring the right resources are in place to successfully compete all tasks; e.g. people; capability; equipment; packaging etc
* Exceeding Client expectations through diligent management of their requirements; clear and transparent communication and dealing with concerns in a timely and appropriate manner
* Proactively leading the health and safety agenda; creating an environment where safe working practices are adhered to and constantly improved upon, and appropriate action is taken in line with company procedures in the event of health and safety breaches
* Ensuring all problems are proactively identified and resolved (through the correct channels) with minimum disruption to service
* Creating a positive working environment through regular communication with the team, providing feedback; encouraging ideas, developing skills, understanding concerns and celebrating success
* Developing the leadership and technical skills of the shift managers, providing feedback, coaching; mentoring and training to facilitate improvement and development. If necessary instigating the formal performance management process
* Ensuring absence is proactively managed absence and providing support and guidance to the shift and line managers in dealing with absence, e.g. phone calls; conducting return to work interviews/absence management meetings etc
* Ensuring poor conduct and/or performance is dealt with positively and appropriately through providing support and guidance to the shift and line managers in line with the Company policies and procedures
* Creating a culture of continuous improvement through leading with an inclusive and collaborative style and providing appropriate coaching to the shift and line managers
* To undertake/ lead ad hoc projects as required
* To deputise for the Site Manager in his/ her absence
