Offer description

St Mark's & LNWH have a major teaching commitment and we have recently been awarded University Hospital status after being granted membership of the Association of UK University Hospitals. Educational courses are run throughout the year from the Academic Institute. The division also manages the General and emergency surgery & outpatient services across three sites (Northwick Park, Ealing and Central Middlesex). The General Surgery Team has a dedicated Consultant-led Surgical Assessment Unit and Ambulatory Hot Clinic supporting the A&E flow as well as vast exposure to complex and innovative trauma surgery management. The implementation of the new junior doctor contract has provided an opportunity to create an exciting new rota which both provides excellent training opportunities and robust service provision. 13 new posts have been created, to join with the 3 current Deanery appointed trainees, to work a fully integrated 16 person rota. The rota is organised in weekly blocks to provide continuity and only one week of nights, plus one weekend of nights is worked during the 16 week period.

Overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen to work within London North West University Hospital. We are looking to appoint a junior doctor (SHO) in the General Surgery department. This post will work alongside existing junior and senior clinical trainees and fellows and offers excellent experience working with 9 Emergency surgeons. The department enjoys an amicable and productive working relationship between surgical and medicine consultants and encourages training and research projects. SHO Level plus 1A Banding. The appointee will work a 16 doctor rota, compliant with the new junior doctor contract. The 16 week rota is organised in weekly blocks and includes the following duties in the 16 weeks (see Appendix A):

* 1st SHO on-call (weekdays and weekends)
* 2nd SHO CEPOD (weekdays and weekends)
* 3rd SHO on-call (weekdays and weekends)
* 4th SHO on-call (weekend)
* SHO nights (weekdays and weekends)
* Remaining weeks include other zero days & ward cover

London North West University Healthcare NHS Trust (LNWH) cares for the people of Brent, Ealing, Harrow and beyond. Our team of more than 8,200 clinical and support staff serve a diverse population of almost one million people. We run major acute services at:

* Northwick Park Hospital: home to one of the busiest emergency departments (A&E) in the country. The hospital provides a full range of services including the country’s top-rated hyper-acute stroke unit and one of only three hyper-acute rehabilitation units in the UK
* St Mark's Hospital: an internationally renowned specialist centre for bowel disease
* Ealing Hospital: a busy district general hospital providing a range of clinical services, as well as 24/7 emergency department and urgent care centre, and specialist care at Meadow House Hospice
* Central Middlesex Hospital: our planned care site, hosting a range of surgical and outpatient services and collocated with an urgent care centre.

We are a university teaching NHS trust, in recognition of the important role we play in training clinicians of the future and bringing the benefits of research to the public. The post holder will have nominated roles as part of the 16 person on call rota. This also includes covering ward duties and assisting in theatres and clinics.

Candidates must have GMC registration and surgical experience at F2/SHO level. The successful applicant will be a team player, but also be able to work individually. You will be a confident and clear communicator possessing excellent IT data management and verbal reasoning skills. We are seeking an enthusiastic individual who can demonstrate excellent attention to detail and accuracy and experience in prioritising workloads.
