Deputy Team Leader / Senior Recovery Practitioner

We have multiple vacancies for permanent posts for Deputy Team Leader / Senior Recovery Practitioner in the West Wing Operating Theatre Department. The WW theatre complex is a 14 theatre unit and 5 satellite areas where elective and emergency surgery takes place. Specialities include Neurosurgery, Maxillofacial, ENT, Ophthalmology, Plastics, General Paediatrics, Paediatric Orthopaedics and Craniofacial surgery. You are expected to provide care to adults, children and neonates.
Shortlisted candidates will be invited to attend a Technical interview. Candidates are encouraged to attend an informal visit.
Main duties of the job
We are looking for an experienced, enthusiastic, and self‑motivated staff member to join the senior WW Recovery team. Applicants will be expected to have at least 3 years of extensive experience in Recovery or Critical Care and have completed an equivalent practice supervisor/assessor course. Applicants must have excellent communication, negotiation and leadership skills to thrive in a busy team environment. You will be encouraged and supported to further develop using the learning opportunities available. There is a structured orientation programme and appraisal system in place to support your development whilst being supported by your team leader and education team.

Job responsibilities
* Act as the patient’s advocate during the perioperative period of care.
* Be responsible for anticipating and providing skilled clinical and technical assistance as a member of the operating theatre team.
* Participate in the assessment of patient care needs and implement and maintain agreed standards of care.
* Follow Codes of Professional Practice, providing high quality and safe care to patients undergoing procedures within the perioperative environment.
* Work effectively within a team.
Person Specification
Education / Training / Qualifications
* Registered Nurse (Part 1, 8, 12, or 15 of register depending on area of practice), ODP HCPC registration or national certification in area of practice.
* Evidence of ongoing professional development through maintenance of NMC/HCPC revalidation.
* Minimum of 3 years experience in Recovery or Critical Care.
* Evidence of achievement of a NMC or HCPC approved mentorship qualification.
* UK recognised degree in nursing relevant to post or equivalent qualification for ODPs.
* Post‑graduate qualification related to an area of practice.
Leadership and Management
* Able to prioritise own workload and that of others as appropriate.
* Demonstrates ability to maintain and contribute to the development of standards of practice, conduct or decision‑making in conjunction with team leaders/unit coordinator.
* Acts as a role model and leads by example to ensure the Trust’s values and behaviours are reinforced throughout their area of practice.
* Able to supervise non‑registered and less experienced staff to ensure effective care delivery.
* Able to effectively and appropriately raise concerns to reduce risk and promote patient safety.
* Previous experience of managing clinical incidents and complaints.
* Previous experience in the relevant specialty.
* Previous substantive management experience of specific clinical area.
