The Consultant will join an established team of enthusiastic clinicians with a broad range of skills in the CAMHS LD service. The team works with children, young people, and their families to understand each child's mental health needs and experiences.
The CAMHS LD team can recommend psychological support, medication, behaviour support, and signposting to other services. In addition to direct clinical work, the service offers:
* Consultation, training, and support to families, education services, children's social care, and other agencies to enhance their skills in meeting the needs of young people with mental health conditions and learning disabilities.
* Support during transition to adult mental health services as appropriate.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will join a supportive group of CAMHS Consultants who are passionate about supporting children and young people across Berkshire with various mental health needs. There are monthly CAMHS consultant meetings, protected time for Reflective Practice and Complex Case Discussions, CAMHS PDP groups, access to a CAMHS Complex Case Panel to explore local and national resources, and a CAMHS Research network.
The CAMH Service runs an active academic program, along with trust-wide academic initiatives, a consultants' Balint Group, and forums for NHS appraisers. The Trust maintains strong links with medical educators and offers placements and tutorials for medical students, as well as training for resident doctors in specialty training and GP schemes across Thames Valley and London.
Research collaborations with Reading University and national studies are well-supported, with several CAMHS consultants having published articles based on their involvement in research projects.
