The Opportunity
We’re looking for an experienced Senior Tax Advisor to join our Financial Services Employment Tax team. From day one, you’ll work on exciting projects, solve complex challenges, and make an impact beyond tax. You’ll help shape how organizations reward and engage their people globally.
This role offers early client exposure and involvement in managing relationships and delivering services across a wide range of issues beyond compliance and advisory.
Key Responsibilities
1. Responsible for Employment Tax business development in Yorkshire & the North-East of England (“YNE”) and client pursuit efforts through involvement in preparing proposals and delivering presentations to potential clients
2. Support and development of junior members of the team and help grow the Employment Tax business at EY in YNE
3. To deliver employment tax compliance and advice to clients in a broad range of industry sectors
4. Be up to date with key technical and functional skills, and with industry, business and leadership skills & knowledge - and share this expertise with others
5. Take a role in the management of the successful delivery of technically complex and demanding consulting projects, ensuring technical excellence and practical / business driven approach
6. To win and sustain client confidence
7. To build opportunities to capture new business and develop client relationships
8. Be confident and effective in recognising and managing potential issues during client assignments
9. Structure and manage projects or programmes of work which meet and exceed client expectations and mitigate any risks or issues
Skills and Attributes for Success
You’ll have:
10. Experience of employment tax gained in consultancy, legal firm and/or large global corporate
11. Have strong personal impact and resilience, and be able to influence and persuade clients and stakeholders at all levels to gain support for major changes and key decisions
12. Working and technical understanding of key employment tax issues, including:
13. Expenses and Benefits (PSAs and P11Ds)
14. Employment Status (IR35 and self-employed)
15. Payroll (PAYE, RTI, apprenticeship levy, audits)
16. Construction Industry Scheme
17. Termination Payments
18. Pensions
19. National Minimum Wage
20. Dealing with HMRC, audits, and disclosures
21. SAO and CCO
22. Business development skills, able to identify and convert opportunities to sell work
23. Proven track record in project management and delivery
24. Change orientated with flexible approach
25. Be professional, quickly establishing personal credibility and demonstrating expertise.
26. Take a practical approach to solving issues and gaining client agreement
27. Be able to analyse complex problems and to deliver insightful, practical, and sustainable solutions
28. Focus on achieving project/programme goals and objectives
29. High quality deliverables including clear and concise technical guidance
30. Be adept at overcoming issues and barriers
31. Identify and discuss opportunities to delegate work to less experienced team members and facilitate learning
32. Be skilled in facilitating and encouraging collaboration amongst team members, and capable of motivating teams to maximise performance
33. Provide timely, authentic, and constructive feedback to colleagues and seek feedback in return.
34. Ideally have the ATT and/or CTA qualifications
