Job Purpose
To carry out control of mink in support of a project set up and funded by NatureScot. The project aims to eradicate American mink (Neovision vision) from the spectacular landscapes of the Outer Hebrides.
To trap and humanely despatch American Mink (also rats and potentially ferrets) on the Isles of Uist or Lewis and Harris using both Spring traps and live capture cage traps. This work can involve working in extremely remote areas accessed by boat.
Key Responsibilities
1. To control mink, by trapping in North Uist, Benbecula and South Uist or Lewis and Harris, Outer Hebrides
2. To record contacts with officials and the public, in relation to this work
3. To maintain accurate records of mink trapping operations
4. To use trained dogs to locate field sign and mink den sites
5. To maintain a high level of personal responsibility in dealing sensitively and humanely with control operations
6. As travelling is an integral part of this role, you must have a valid driving license, or be able to call upon suitable means of transport
Finally, please note that the nature of this role can involve walking over moorland of between 8-20 kilometres per day.
