About The Job

* Salary: £33,143 – £36,363 a year pro rata
* Hours per week: 25
* Contract type: Permanent

Are you passionate about making a meaningful difference in the lives of children with disabilities? Luton Council is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Occupational Therapy Assistant to join our Children’s Services team.

Working under the guidance of the Team Manager and a qualified Occupational Therapist, you will play a key role in promoting independence, supporting development, and enhancing the health and wellbeing of children and young people. Your work will follow a strengths‑based, person‑centred approach, collaborating closely with children, their families, carers, and a wide range of professionals.


Key Responsibilities

* Support the delivery of occupational therapy interventions for children with a range of disabilities
* Work collaboratively with families, carers, and multi‑agency professionals to achieve positive outcomes
* Assist in promoting independence and daily living skills in line with individual care plans
* Follow established procedures while contributing to practical problem‑solving and decision‑making within your role
* Maintain accurate records and communicate effectively across teams

About You

* You have demonstrable experience working in a health or social care setting, ideally with children and/or individuals with disabilities
* You understand a range of disabilities and the impact they may have on development and daily living
* You are a strong team player who can manage competing priorities and work effectively under pressure
* You are flexible, adaptable, and responsive to the evolving needs of the service
* You have excellent communication skills—verbal, written, and interpersonal—and can build positive working relationships both internally and externally
* You demonstrate sound organisational skills and practical problem‑solving abilities
* You are confident in following procedures and making appropriate decisions within your level of responsibility, including awareness of risk
* You have a good understanding of equality, diversity, and inclusion, and are committed to upholding these values in practice
* You possess knowledge of relevant legislation, national guidance, and best practice (or are willing to develop this knowledge)
* You hold at least one relevant qualification (or equivalent experience)

Legal and Disclosure Requirements

Because of the nature of this job, it will be necessary for the appropriate level of criminal record disclosure to be undertaken. This post is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 and therefore applicants are required to declare all unspent cautions and convictions; and also any adult cautions (simple or conditional), and spent convictions that are not protected as defined by the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exceptions) Order 1975 (as amended in 2020). A person’s criminal record will not in itself prevent a person from being appointed to this post.
