About the Role: Planning Enforcement Officer
Join our busy and dedicated Planning Enforcement team, handling around 600 cases annually. This is a pivotal role where you’ll provide expert planning advice, guide enforcement decisions, engage with Councilors, progress cases to formal action and help shape the future of our district.
The temporary post will initially focus primarily on progressing existing cases relating to non‑compliance with Section 106 agreements relating to open space and infrastructure provision on major sites.
Key Responsibilities
* Lead regular case reviews and mentor Enforcement Officers
* Advise on the expediency of enforcement actions
* Draft decision reports and formal notices (with Planning Manager support)
* Represent the Council in legal proceedings and appeals
* Prepare appeal statements and respond to cost applications
What We’re Looking For
We’re seeking someone with a strong planning background and a passion for making a difference:
* Degree (Bachelor’s or Master’s) in Planning or equivalent and/or eligible for RTPI Chartered Membership (including via experienced practitioner rout)
* Experience in planning or enforcement, including casework and appeals
* Ability to mentor and advise colleagues
* Skilled in preparing formal reports and negotiating effectively
