We are looking for an experienced Rail Wagon Technician to support the safe and efficient operation of freight wagons. This is a hands-on engineering role involving inspection, maintenance and repair work to ensure wagons remain reliable for ongoing service.
The Role:
1. Inspect freight wagons and accurately record findings on inspection sheets
2. Carry out planned and reactive repairs including welding, roof panel work, curtain (bache) repairs and general mechanical tasks
3. Perform brake tests and safety checks
4. Calibrate wheelsets and report findings to the team supervisor
5. Review components and spares required for upcoming repairs
6. Liaise with on-site rail operations teams regarding wagon movements and repair scheduling
7. Maintain a clean, safe and well-organised working area
8. Communicate effectively with supervisors and local management regarding progress, issues and priorities
9. Support operations at additional sites when required, including occasional overnight stays
Requirements:
10. Full UK Driving Licence
11. Qualified and competent welder
12. PTS certification (Personal Track Safety)
13. NVQ Level 3 (or equivalent) in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Railway Engineering Traction & Rolling Stock, or similar discipline - or apprentice trained
14. Strong written reporting skills
15. Confident using IT systems such as phones, tablets or laptops
16. Able to work independently and take ownership of tasks
17. Good relationship-building skills and a professional approach
18. Flexible to travel to other locations when needed
