We are working with an innovative, purpose-driven manufacturing company that designs and produces safety-critical products for a niche healthcare market. They are now looking for an experienced Senior Design Engineer to join their collaborative team.
This is a hands-on, full lifecycle product development role — ideal for an engineer who enjoys taking ownership of their work, from concept generation through to production.
You will be:
Developing new safety-critical products for healthcare applications
Managing the design process from initial concept to prototype, testing and release for manufacture
Following the company’s NPD process and collaborating closely with colleagues, including Product Managers and Certification/Testing experts
Using SolidWorks daily (with PDM) for advanced 3D CAD modelling (parts & assemblies) and 2D drawing creation
Using an in-house workshop equipped with 3D printers, power tools and hand tools to develop and test physical prototypes
Problem solving creatively, using sound engineering principles and hands-on development
Managing testing of pre-release products and updating designs based on results
Ensuring regulatory compliance (with the support of an in-house compliance specialist)
Producing full manufacturing documentation and specifications
Sourcing or ordering appropriate materials (wood, metal, plastics)
Managing documentation and version control accurately
Working to targets and deadlines, communicating project status to key stakeholders
You must have:
A degree in Mechanical Engineering, Product Design, or equivalent professional experience
Around 10 years’ experience in mechanical engineering roles, managing the full design lifecycle
Advanced SolidWorks skills (3D CAD assemblies, 2D drawings), ideally with PDM
A portfolio of products brought to market in a relevant industrial setting
Practical prototyping and product testing experience
Experience managing your own design projects, delivering them on time
Strong team ethic – willing to assist colleagues on other projects when needed
Able to work with a high level of autonomy in a fast-paced environment
Experience working with a variety of materials and manufacturing techniques: e.g. wood machining, metal casting/machining, plastic injection moulding, rapid prototyping
The following would be an advantage:
Background in Industrial Design, with a user-focused and ergonomic approach to concept development
Experience with safety-critical products or the healthcare sector
Experience working on electro-mechanical products
Familiarity with in-house 3D printing tools and workflows
What’s on offer:
Salary: £45,000 – £55,000 depending on experience
Company bonus scheme: 10% GBS
Hybrid working: 4 days on-site, 1 day remote (subject to manager approval)
25 days holiday + bank holidays
