Job Overview The post holder will be responsible for Older Persons Services, covering GP surgeries in the North Denbighshire area. The post will provide CPA reviews and ward round for inpatients for the catchment area, outpatient clinics and medical input to the memory service, and deal with organic referrals. Graduates by agreement with adult consultant psychiatrists for age 65 if meet criteria for complex needs. The post will be expected to comply with the Mental Health (Wales) Measure 2010 and may at times attract a junior doctor, depending on availability in the training rota. The post holder may undertake responsibilities if approved under the Mental Health Act (1983) as a section 12/2 approved doctor.
Main duties of the job The post holder will provide specialist psychiatric assessment, treatment and management for people with cognitive impairment (including young onset dementia) and those over 70 with functional illnesses, with transition arrangements for an age equal or needs based specialist Older Persons Mental Health Service (OPMHS) from the catchment area.
The post holder will work within the legislative arrangements of the Mental Health (Wales) Measure 2010, providing medical leadership to the CMHTE and consultation work with Primary Mental Health Services for the elderly. They will co‑ordinate a limited number of personal cases providing Care and Treatment Plans.
The post holder will provide Consultant and Responsible Clinician services to patients admitted to Bryn Hesketh and Tegid Ward, and offer Mental Health Act and Mental Capacity Act opinions for patients from their catchment area.
The post holder will provide reports and consultation services to support the Health Board in the commissioning of long‑term health care for patients from their catchment area.
Person specification Essential Criteria
MB BS or equivalent medical qualification.
Desirable Criteria
Qualification or higher degree in medical education, clinical research or management.
MRCPsych or MRCPsych equivalent approved by the Royal College of Psychiatrists.
Welsh AC Approval.
Eligibility Essential Criteria
Fully registered with the GMC with a licence to practise at the time of appointment.
Included on GMC Specialist Register or within 6 months of completing CCT.
Approved Clinician status or able to achieve within 3 months of appointment.
Approved under S12 or able to achieve within 3 months of appointment.
Desirable criteria
In good standing with GMC with respect to warning and conditions on practice.
Clinical Skills Essential criteria
Evidence of training in the core and specialist competencies for community psychiatry.
Desirable criteria
Experience in leading a multi‑disciplinary team.
Teaching and Training Essential Criteria
Evidence of having delivered postgraduate teaching.
Evidence of having delivered multidisciplinary teaching.
Desirable criteria
Experience of teaching medical students.
