Job summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a new role of a Practice Medicines Coordinator on a fixed term basis for 12 months.
The role is part time working hours per week, Mon-Fri.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will:
1. Take a central role in reviewing, improving and implementing the repeat prescribing system in their practice.
2. Be responsible for putting in place processes that minimise the chance of error and reduce wastage of medicines.
3. Ensure all staff are aware of the correct procedures to run a safe, cost effective, efficient, patient focussed repeat prescription system.
4. Be the main contact point for non-clinical medication related queries from pharmacies, nursing homes, and other health care professionals.
5. Deliver agreed safety, waste and efficiency projects as directed by the CCG Medicines Co-ordinator Project Leads

Job responsibilities
To attend Practice Medicines Co-ordinator (PMC) training events organised by the CCG Medicines Management Team.
To collect monthly data to monitor improvements and savings in line with PMC and CCG Medicines Management work programme.
To maintain comprehensive and accurate records of work undertaken for the PMC projects and activities.
To share experience and training with other practices to spread good practice.
To manage time effectively to ensure all PMC projects and activities are completed within agreed time frames.
To be the first point of contact for patients, community pharmacists, care home staff and other healthcare professionals who have non clinical queries relating to repeat prescriptions.
To supervise and train any practice staff dealing with repeat prescribing processes.
To undertake proactive housekeeping management of the repeat prescribing process in accordance with practice and CCG medicines management protocols.
To reduce medicines waste, minimise risk and improve the repeat prescribing process.
To liaise with prescribers, practice managers and other healthcare professionals to develop and implement systems and protocols to improve medicines management in the practice.
To support the CCG Medicines Management Team and GP practice employed pharmacists (if relevant) with searches, data collection and letter production required for prescribing changes.
To support the CCG Medicines Management Team and GP practice employed pharmacists (if relevant) with communication of any key messages relating to medicines management.

Qualifications

6. Qualified to GSCE Level in English and Maths

7. A sound knowledge of the working of general practice, including clinical computer systems, specifically EMIS.
8. Familiarity with drug names and terminology.
9. Experience of working in GP practice/ NHS provider for at least 1 year.
10. A commitment to improving patient care.
11. The ability to work unsupervised and use own initiative within the set parameters.
12. Effective communication skills, verbal and written.
13. Good interpersonal and leadership skills.
14. Enthusiasm for the role and to learn new skills.
