Quantity Surveyor / EstimatorRole OverviewWe are seeking a Quantity Surveyor / Estimator to join our commercial team.The successful candidate will support the delivery of construction, refurbishment, and maintenance projects through a combination of estimating, cost control, and commercial management.This role covers both pre-contract and post-contract responsibilities, ensuring strong financial control across multiple projects.Based in our Tredegar office, you will work closely with project and site teams to produce accurate costings, support procurement activity, and maintain effective cost management throughout the project lifecycle.Key ResponsibilitiesEstimating & TenderingPrepare detailed cost estimates for construction, refurbishment, and maintenance projectsProduce tender submissions, including Bills of Quantities (BoQs) and schedules of ratesReview subcontractor and supplier quotations to ensure accuracy and competitivenessUse estimating systems and tools (including Construction AI platforms) to support tender preparationAssess project risks and apply appropriate contingencies within bidsCost Planning & Cost ControlDevelop and maintain project budgets from pre-construction through to completionMonitor project expenditure and report variances against approved budgetsProvide cost advice to support informed decision-making throughout project deliveryContract AdministrationPrepare and assess interim valuations and progress paymentsReview subcontractor applications and claimsManage variations, including assessment of cost and programme impactsEnsure compliance with contractual obligations and requirementsProcurement & Commercial ManagementSupport the selection and appointment of subcontractors and suppliersIssue purchase orders and maintain procurement schedulesNegotiate pricing, terms, and commercial agreementsProvide commercial guidance to site and project teams to support cost efficiencySkills & AttributesStrong numerical and analytical skillsSolid understanding of construction methods, materials, and sequencingGood working knowledge of construction contracts (JCT essential; NEC/FIDIC desirable)High attention to detail and accuracyStrong communication and negotiation skillsAbility to manage workload across multiple concurrent projectsRole DetailsLocation: Tredegar (office-based)Working Pattern: Full-time or 34 days per week (part-time considered, pro-rata)Salary: £40,000 £45,000 (FTE), depending on experienceTravel: South Wales and South West England (up to Lands End), with mileage-based allocation; pool van provided for business useWhats next?
