Opportunity

We have an opportunity for a 12-month fixed term contract for 3 days a week to cover maternity leave, and are looking to recruit a highly motivated and enthusiastic Pharmacy Technician, with a keen interest in mental health, to join our wonderful Pharmacy team.

Overview

Pendleview is a mental health unit made up of Six Inpatient wards based at the Royal Blackburn Hospital. The unit provides 24 hour care for patients between the ages of 18 to 65 years old. The inpatient team works across all wards providing individualised recovery focussed treatment plans in collaboration with the patient. For some patients this may be a brief stay for intensive treatment and support, others who suffer from severe and enduring mental illness may require more frequent admissions.

Pharmacy Service

The Pharmacy Service within Lancashire and South Cumbria Foundation Trust is a well-established team with a wealth of expertise in both Mental Health and Community services and continues to provide high quality clinical input into all aspects of the health provision delivered by the organisation. We are a supportive team committed to the education and development of our expanding service.

Role & Responsibilities

We are looking to recruit a Band 4 Pharmacy Technician to support medicines management for service users and the wider multidisciplinary team. You should be enthusiastic and self‑motivated with excellent communication and interpersonal skills and an ability to prioritise own workload. The ability to work effectively as part of a team and independently is essential.

To help provide a comprehensive pharmaceutical service with emphasis on the accurate preparation and dispensing of medicines to patients and for the supply of medicines to wards, departments and partnership organisations under supervision.

The successful applicant will also participate with audit, medicines reconciliation, medicines optimisation and discharge facilitation. You will support the team with medicines supply for the unit and will support the use of the electronic prescribing system.

Participate in local and national audits and monitor compliance with medicines legislation and national and local standards for the safe and secure handling of medicines. Act as a key member of the multidisciplinary ward team and the wider pharmacy team. There may be a requirement to travel to other sites within the Trust.

Inclusion and Equality

LSCFT values diversity and inclusion, recognising that talent from varied backgrounds creates a flexible, creative, and effective workforce. We actively challenge discrimination and welcome applications from all, regardless of age, disability (including those with experience of accessing or caring for someone who has accessed mental health or learning disability services), ethnicity, gender, religion, belief, or sexual orientation.

Our aim is to reflect the communities we serve, so we particularly encourage applications from under‑represented groups. If you’d like to discuss your application, please ask.

We also welcome individuals with lived experience relevant to the role or service area, as your insight brings authenticity to our services.

Flexible Working

LSCFT supports flexible working, we believe that a positive work/life balance benefits NHS employees through improved health and wellbeing. We would consider working patterns such as term time, part time, compressed hours and flexi‑time.
