Binnies an RSK Group Company is looking for a Design Manager - Water Industry National Environment Programme to work within our @one Alliance.
What will you be doing as our new Design Manager WINEP?
In your new position as Design Manager, you lead the infrastructure engineering teams approach on shaping and delivering WINEP for AMP8. This program aims to address environmental challenges, enhance resilience, and manage flood risk within Anglian Waters region.
As a WINEP Design Manager, you will collaborate with various internal and external stakeholders, including the Environment Agency; landscape architects; community members and Anglian Water’s hydraulic modelling team. The role will require you to embrace new ways of delivery with an emphasis on catchment wide assessments, focussing not purely on attenuation and civils solutions but also embracing the use of sustainable urban drainage systems (SUDS) and retrofitting them into the existing urban landscape.
Key Accountabilities:
Design Management:
1. Lead and manage the design delivery for the WINEP portfolio of projects within infrastructure (wastewater networks) engineering.
2. Develop and manage Engineering Project Plans that include scope, program, cost, risk, and resources.
3. Provide direction on suitable design methods in collaboration with Discipline Lead Engineers.
4. Assess project complexity and assign suitably competent engineering resources.
5. Implement design quality procedures and ensure adherence to achieve a right-first-time philosophy.
6. Manage supplier and subcontractor design input, including engagement, selection, management, and integration of designs.
Project Delivery:
7. Work in partnership with other functions to deliver outcomes for your portfolio.
8. Seek and deliver opportunities to achieve affordability and value within your portfolio.
9. Support the development and management of project programs to achieve milestones and drive efficiencies.
10. Produce designs that contribute to enhancing sustainability.
Health & Safety:
11. Undertake delegated duties of the Principal Designer as per CDM Regulations.
12. Manage CDM competency assessments for your team and projects.
13. Ensure the production of design risk assessments and manage health & safety documentation for your portfolio.
People/Team Development:
14. Provide clear, consistent, and visible leadership to your portfolio design team.
15. Undertake people management responsibilities, including performance management and personal development.
16. Allocate resources based on project priorities and complexity.
17. Support team development and recruitment efforts.
Transformation:
18. Support the engineering team transformation and transition into AMP8.
19. Drive a culture of experimentation, innovation, risk management, and continuous improvement within your team.
20. Reduce carbon and natural capital within designs and embrace new digital technologies.
A little bit about your skills, experience and behaviours…..
To be successful in this position you will hold a degree in an engineering discipline and preferably be Chartered or working towards Chartered status, with proven experience in the Water sector ideally on pipelines, pressurised networks, attenuation tanks, combined sewer overflows or drainage projects. You’ll have a familiarity with UK Water Industry regulations, and a thirst for knowledge.
You’ll have solid people management skills and have adaptable collaborative communication skills. You’re aware of the importance of Quality Assurance and Risk and Opportunities Management, and focused on Right First-Time approach, whilst considering delivery on time implications.
