Are you passionate about improving mental health and helping people make meaningful change?

We are recruiting for a full-time Psychological Wellbeing Practitioner (PWP) to join our team at HMP Bullingdon in Bicester, which is a Category B and C local prison housing approximately 1000 remand and sentenced male prisoners.

Under the supervision of Clinical Supervisors, you will assess individuals’ needs for low-intensity psychological interventions, provide suitable evidence-based treatments, and maintain accurate clinical records. You’ll collaborate closely with a multi-disciplinary team as part of the Integrated Mental Health Service within the prison.

This is an ideal role for a newly qualified PWP to play a key role in delivering high volume evidence-based practice in guided self-help, for individuals and groups within a unique and rewarding environment.

If you’re a registered PWP (BPS or BABCP) with a strong understanding of evidence-based practice and a genuine desire to support others, we’d love to hear from you.


Main duties of the job

* Management of own caseload in assessments and interventions. Referral to appropriate service on stepped care model.
* To assess for and conduct appropriate interventions in accordance with Talking Therapies policies. Manage own caseload and refer prisoners to appropriate services as per step care model.
* Following Screening Assessment, make decisions on appropriate intervention following the stepped care model at Step 1, 2 or 3 within the service or when appropriate making onward referrals to Step 4 Psychological Therapies, Adult Mental Health Teams or tertiary services. Clients can also be signposted to other agencies. These decisions may be made in conjunction with supervisor.
* Attend and fulfil all the requirements of the Talking Therapies supervision.

Knowledge


Essential criteria

* A clear understanding of the Improving Access to Psychological Therapies IAPT programme
* Knowledge of the full range of evidence based psychological interventions across steps 1, 2 and step 3.


Desirable criteria

* Knowledge of a wide range of statutory and non-statutory Mental Health Services.
* Knowledge of diagnostic criteria across the full range of psychiatric disorders.


Qualifications


Essential criteria

* PWP Registration with the British Psychological Society (BPS) or the British Association of Behavioural & Cognitive Psychotherapies (BABCP).
* Ability to deliver the full range of Low Intensity interventions


Desirable criteria

* Able to develop good therapeutic relationships with clients
* To have completed or be willing to attend IAPT LTC/PPS top up training.

* Evidence of working with clients with more complex presentations (e.g., comorbidities or higher risk).
* Good time management - Ability to manage own caseload and time


Desirable criteria

* Demonstrates ability to work with and have an understanding of individuals with LTC/PPS
