Main duties of the job
In general, the post-holder will be expected to undertake all the normal duties and responsibilities associated with a GP working within primary care including but not limited to:-
* In accordance with the practice timetable, as agreed, the post-holder will make themselves available to undertake a variety of duties including surgery consultations, telephone consultations and queries, checking and signing repeat prescriptions when needed and dealing with any administration in a timely manner.
* Making professional, autonomous decisions in relation to presenting problems, whether self-referred or referred from other health care workers within the organisation.
* Assessing the health care needs of patients with undifferentiated and undiagnosed problems.
* Screening patients for disease risk factors and early signs of illness.
* In consultation with patients and in line with current practice disease management protocols, developing care plans for health.
* Recording clear and contemporaneous consultation notes to agreed standards.
About us
Ballards Walk Surgery is located in Basildon, Essex. We have around 13,000 patients. We are a forward thinking practice and have a friendly supportive team of Advanced Nurse Practitioners, Pharmacist team, Physician Associate, Practice Nurses, Healthcare Assistants, Social Prescribers, a large clinical and non clinical admin team, we are also part of West Basildon PCN from which we have access to home visits, extended access and our Basildon Emergency Care Team.
Job responsibilities
Thefollowing are the core responsibilities of the salaried GP. There may be onoccasion, a requirement to carry out other tasks; this will be dependent uponfactors such as workload and staffing levels:
* a The delivery of highly effective medical care to theentitled population
* b.The provision of services commensurate with the GMScontract
* c.Generic prescribing adhering to local and nationalguidance
* d.Effective management of long-term conditions
* e.Processing of administration in a timely manner,including referrals, repeat prescription requests and other associatedadministrative tasks
* f.On a rotational basis, undertake telephone triage andduty doctor roles
* g.Maintain accurate clinical records in conjunction withgood practice, policy and guidance
* h.Working collaboratively, accepting an equal share of thepractice workload
* i.Adhere to best practice recommended through clinicalguidelines and the audit process
* j.Contribute to the successful implementation of continuousimprovement and quality initiatives within the practice
* k.Accept delegated responsibility for a specific area (orareas) or the QOF
* l.Attend and contribute effectively to practice meetings asrequired
* m.Contribute effective to the development and maintenanceof the practice including; clinical governance, training, financialmanagement and HR
* n.Ensure compliance with the appraisal process
* o.Prepare and complete the revalidation process
* p.Commit to self-learning and instil an ethos of continuingprofessional development across the practice team
* q.Support the training of medical students from allclinical disciplines
* r.Support the partners in achieving the strategic aims ofthe practice, making recommendations to enhance income and reduce expenditure
* s.Review and adhere to practice protocols and policies atall times
* t.Encourage collaborative working, liaising with all staffregularly, promoting a culture of continuous improvement at all times
Person Specification
Qualifications
* Qualified GP
* MRCGP
* Vocational Training Certificate or equivalent JCPTGP
* General Practitioner (Certificate of Completion of Training CCT)
* Full GMC Registration
* National Performers List registration
* Appropriate defence indemnity (MPS/MDU)
* Eligibility to practice in the UK independently
* Experience of working in a primary care environment
* Experience of continued professional development
* Experience of QOF and clinical audit
* Minimum of two years as a salaried GP
* Experience of medicines management
* Experience of CCG initiatives
* General understanding of the GMS contract
